Chris Evans in talks to play two very different characters in the same film

Chris Evans keeps himself plenty busy playing Steve “Captain America” Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that hasn’t stopped the him from taking on other projects. Now, Deadline reports that the actor is in talks to add not one, but two new roles to his résumé.

OK, so that’s a bit misleading. Not only are both parts from the same film, they both live inside the same man. You see, Lionsgate is working on a big-screen adaptation of the BBC One miniseries Jekyll, and Evans is being eyed for the lead role(s).

While some have reported that he is in talks to play the classic Jekyll/Hyde duo, it looks like the actor will actually be playing Tom Jackman who — in the original — is the last living descendant Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous characters. James Nesbitt played the characters for BBC One.

If you’re having a touch of deja vu, it’s probably because we recently reported that Russell Crowe was in talks to portray Jekyll/Hyde in Tom Cruise’s upcoming Mummy reboot, but that project is totally separate from this one. Crowe will be playing the original, non-updated Jekyll/Hyde, and could appear as the duo in several films.

Everybody confused, yet?

This project is still in its very early stages, so no one has signed on the dotted line just yet, but it does look like there’s a strong chance Evans could be brought on board. Screenwriters Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, who also collaborated on The Nice Guys, penned the script, but the film has yet to hire a helmer.

Stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated as the details filter in. Regardless of what happens, it looks like we’ll be seeing plenty of both Jekyll and Hyde in the near future.
