Nintendo will re-release many popular Wii U and 3DS games as part of its budget-priced Nintendo Selects catalog in August, including such titles as Lego City Undercover, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.

The publisher also announced plans to reissue several of its Wii U games at retail with bundled amiibo figurines, giving players a second chance to pick up platform standouts like Yoshi’s Woolly World and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

Starting August 26, Wii U owners can pick up reprints of the sandbox-style action game Lego City Undercover, former console pack-in title Nintendo Land, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for just $20 apiece.

The upcoming wave of discounts is noteworthy for Wii U fans who have been attempting to track down a copy of Lego City Undercover in the years after its launch. The game was never reprinted following its initial shipment, and aftermarket prices surged when collector circles began snatching up new and used copies as word of its rarity spread.

Nintendo 3DS owners, meanwhile, will be able to add Tomodachi Life, Lego City Undercover, Nintendogs + Cats, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon to their libraries at $20 a pop when the next round of Nintendo Selects launches late this month.

Nintendo will also issue a series of amiibo-bundled Wii U reprints in September, including a limited-edition version of its puzzle-platformer Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Initially released via Nintendo’s eShop and as a standard-edition physical version, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker now includes a bonus Toad figurine when purchased at retail.

Other amiibo-packed Wii U reissues debuting in September include the multiplayer party game Mario Party 10 and side-scrolling platformer Yoshi’s Woolly World. Figure-bundled editions of Mario Party 10 include either a Bowser or a Princess Peach amiibo, while players who pick up Yoshi’s Woolly World can opt for either a pink or blue yarn Yoshi amiibo.

Standalone Nintendo Selects releases will be available for $20 each in August. Bundles that include amiibo figurines are priced at $40 apiece and will be available in September.

Key art for LOK Digital.

This has been the busiest December for games in recent memory. This month alone, we’ve seen the massive launches of Marvel Rivals, Infinity Nikki, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Those games have probably sucked up all of your time and attention, and that’s on top of The Game Awards 2024 flooding gaming spaces with several new announcements. That has caused games like LOK Digital, which launched in the thick of all this, to fly under the radar.

LOK Digital is one of the best puzzle games released in a year full of outstanding ones. It’s a glorified word search for a fictional alien language, but it's also ridiculously clever in how it bends its own rules to create some head-scratching puzzles. LOK Digital is a fitting game for the holidays, something that you can easily install and play on a laptop while hanging out with friends or family. It’s also a reminder to look outside the traditional gaming zeitgeist in its busiest moments. That’s often where some true hidden gems are waiting to be discovered.

Sega could release its own game subscription service
Old Sonic runs away from Metal Sonic in Sonic Generations X Shadow.

Between Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus, and even Nintendo Switch Online, it feels like every company has its own subscription. Throw in Ubisoft+, EA Play, and multiple other companies and you have a veritable free-for-all. Now, Sega's new president, Shuji Utsumi, says the beloved company is considering a similar offer, although he remained tight-lipped on details.

In an interview with the BBC, Utsumi said, "We're thinking something — and discussing something — we cannot disclose right now," he said. The statement followed Utsumi saying the subscription services were "very interesting."
