Digital Trends Live: Huawei takes a hit, Disney’s dominance, and more

 

On this episode of Digital Trends Live, DT senior writer Parker Hall joins host Greg Nibler to discuss the top tech stories of the day, including the U.S. declaring a national emergency that effectively bans Huawei, Comcast’s sale of its Hulu shares to Disney, a $500 price tag prediction for the PlayStation 5, flying taxis, and more.

Later Nibler, is joined by Dr. Malcolm Thompson, executive director of NextFlex, to discuss flexible electronics boards and the future of wearable technology that can bend, flex, and adhere to skin.

Felicia Miranda, DT’s New York-based gaming editor,  welcomes Tim Willits, studio director of Bethesda and id Software, to talk about Rage 2 and the development process behind the new, open-world first-person shooter.

Nibler then talks with Beverly Harzog, credit card expert at U.S. News & World Reports, about getting the best travel bang for your buck, and cashing in on your credit card rewards.

 

Lastly, Jon Heim, TiVo’s senior director of product management, voice solutions, discusses the evolution of voice recognition, and how TiVo is leveraging machine learning and A.I. for a smarter, more efficient user experience.

Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, and more will cameo in free Astro Bot DLC

PlayStation opened its September State of Play presentation with a little surprise for Astro Bot fans. Developer Team Asobi announced that it will be adding 10 new bots to the game for free later this fall.

Astro Bot is filled with bots of popular PlayStation characters and iconography, so the new bots will certainly follow that same trend. We don't know the full list (studio head Nicolas Doucet said there will be more information soon), but the trailer introduced Eve from Stellar Blade and a helldiver from Helldivers 2.

PlayStation celebrates its 30th birthday with free trials, board games, and more

PlayStation is gearing up for its 30th anniversary on December 3 with some free gifts for fans, including new trials, never-before-released soundtracks, and even board games.

The company introduced these upcoming releases as part of its anniversary celebration, and it says there will be more to come. For now, though, we've got a mix of nostalgic and modern to look forward to.

Sony’s new live-service title Concord is having a rough launch

Sony's live-service hero shooter Concord launched on PC and PlayStation 5 last week, and the early numbers are looking grim.

According to third-party data site SteamDB, Concord peaked at a disappointing 697 concurrent players on PC on launch day. At the time of this writing, there are 252 players in the game. This is despite two beta periods, an early access period that began on August 20, and a public launch on August 23. In comparison, Helldivers 2, another PlayStation first-party, live-service game released simultaneously on PC and PlayStation 5, hit a concurrent players peak of 458,709 around launch. Six months in, it still rakes in tens of thousands of players.
