Gamestop’s Black Friday countdown sale discounts Nintendo Switch games

GameStop is launching a Black Friday countdown sale, which includes discounts on games and PC hardware. Most notably, the sale features savings on several first-party Nintendo Switch games — the latest in a string of Black Friday deals we’ve seen this week.

On Saturday, November 14, Switch owners can grab several games for $40. The list of discounted games includes:

  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
  • Splatoon 2
  • Super Mario Maker 2
  • Yoshi’s Crafted World
  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
  • Luigi’s Mansion 3
  • Mario Tennis Aces

Absent from the list are major 2020 titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons or Paper Mario: The Origami King, which won’t be available for sale on Black Friday either.

While the Switch games are on sale for one day only, customers can grab an array of deals from November 14 to November 18. Borderlands 3, Fast & Furious Crossroads, and a Sims 4 bundle including the new Star Wars DLC pack are all available for $20. Other software highlights include Devil May Cry 5 and Hitman 2, which are both down to $15 in the sale.

On the hardware side, GameStop is offering big savings on gaming laptops and accessories. Customers can save $100 on select MSI gaming laptops and pick up exclusive accessory bundles that include a mouse and RGB mechanical keyboard for 50% off.

Super Smash Bros. purists can grab the Nintendo Switch Fight Pad Pro controller (GameCube-style controllers emblazoned with different logos from Nintendo games) for $10.

The countdown sale is a teaser for GameStop’s proper Black Friday sale will include discounts on 2020’s biggest games, like Marvel’s Avengers and Star Wars Squadrons. Players will have a chance to get a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X in-store during that sale as well, though GameStop says that stock will be limited.

Xbox Game Pass is getting tons of new games following Black Ops 6 success
A cockpit view in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

We know a lot of you are playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on Xbox right now, but the company just announced some games coming to Xbox Game Pass -- specifically the Game Pass Standard tier -- in the first half of November.

The biggest game coming to the service (and we mean that literally) is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Xbox and developers Asobo Studio previously reported that it will have a smaller install size than its predecessor -- 127GB versus 157GB -- but it'll also require 64GB of RAM. All of this is to help stream immense detail to the player as they fly around the world. Asobo says helped it to increase "the detail of its virtual environment by a factor of 4,000." Alongside the hyperrealistic graphics is a new career mode where you go through training and missions to become a pilot and a challenge mode where you compete against other pilots. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is coming to Game Pass at launch on November 19.

A soldier crouching with his eyes blacked out.

When Microsoft announced that it was acquiring Activision, the big question on everyone's mind was what would happen with Call of Duty. Well, it took months of legal battles, but the deal finally went through and the first CoD game to release officially under Microsoft is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Xbox has held firm to its commitment to put all of its first-party titles onto Game Pass on day one for all its subscribers, but is it honoring that deal for the biggest game of the year? We know it isn't an Xbox exclusive and is still cross-platform, after all. If you have an Xbox and a subscription to Game Pass, you might not need to spend any money on Black Ops 6, but only if you meet one specific requirement.
Is Black Ops 6 on Game Pass?

The short answer is yes, Black Ops 6 is on Game Pass, but not at every tier. Prior to Black Ops 6 launching, Xbox restructured its Game Pass tiers a bit with new pricing and benefits. What you need to know is that you now need to either be a PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate subscriber to get access to any first-party day-one titles.

Black Ops 6 isn’t the only Activision Blizzard game coming to Xbox Game Pass this month

It's October, which means it's Call of Duty season for Xbox and Activision. So expectedly, Xbox Game Pass' offerings for the second half of the month into November are all about Activision Blizzard.

October 25 is the big day for Call of Duty fans. The next entry in the shooter series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, is hitting cloud, console, and PC for Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. Modern Warfare 3, which was the first Call of Duty game added to the service in July, is also specifically coming to Xbox Cloud Gaming on October 25, along with Call of Duty Warzone.
