Motorola has a few things to be excited about. Its sales are up thanks to Android, its relationship with Verizon is going great, and it has a hot new tablet coming out. Now, all eyes are on CES. The phone maker is set to debut multiple products at the show and the rumors are flying.

Pocketnow has been pouring over trademark applications and discovered that Motorola has been trademarking the name “Motorola Xoom” all across the world. While companies do this all the time, the broad variety of countries Moto has applied in implies that it may be a major new product line, and is likely the name of the company’s upcoming tablet.

“Besides the US, where it’s one of 48 applications that Moto’s filed this year, the mark is also seeking protection in Canada — where it’s one of 17 2010 filings from the company –along with the EU and Australia, where it’s among five and six 2010 applications, respectively,” writes Evan Blass on Pocketnow. “Even more interesting, this seems to be the only mark that the company has filed for in New Zealand this year, and just one of nine in that country this entire decade. Finally, Motorola appears to have submitted Motorola Xoom to the Taiwanese trademark office most recently, where it looks to be just one of two filings this year, and the only one with English characters.”

Xoom may be the name of Moto’s new tablet, Blass concludes. Why a tablet? The trademark description is excessively broad. Motorola is seeking trademark for “mobile computers and related accessories, namely, docks, cradles, mounts, holders, stands, carrying cases, covers, protective or decorative covers, batteries, power adaptors, cables, connectors, headsets and speakers; hand held computers, lap top computers, tablet computers, electronic notepads, computers, mobile data communications apparatus.”

Motorola is certainly hyping its new tablet. A few days ago, it released a teaser video that took jabs at the iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab.

While trade wars, tariffs, and wavering subsidies are very much in the cards for the auto industry in 2025, global sales of electric vehicles (EVs) are still expected to rise substantially next year, according to S&P Global Mobility.

"2025 is shaping up to be ultra-challenging for the auto industry, as key regional demand factors limit demand potential and the new U.S. administration adds fresh uncertainty from day one," says Colin Couchman, executive director of global light vehicle forecasting for S&P Global Mobility.

Given existing tariffs and what’s in store from the Trump administration, you’d be forgiven for thinking the global race toward lower electric vehicle (EV) prices will not reach U.S. shores in 2025.

After all, Chinese manufacturers, who sell the least expensive EVs globally, have shelved plans to enter the U.S. market after 100% tariffs were imposed on China-made EVs in September.
