Acer’s TimelineX notebooks slim down and amp up

Computer maker Acer has announced updates to its well-regarded TimelineX series of slim notebook computers, adding second-generation Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processors, longer battery life, and improved entertainment options with the addition of Dolby Home Theater v4 audio. Acer says the new TimelineX systems can offer battery life of up to 9 hours (8 hours with discrete graphics) and sport a battery life cycle of up to your years so users will get full value from the systems. All the systems sport 3DSonic Stereo speakers and a USB 3.0 port that can charge USB devices even when the notebook is turned off.

“From its inception, the Acer Aspire TimelineX Series has hit the mark in style, mobility, performance, and battery life for ultimate PC productivity,” said Acer America senior product marketing manager Eric Ackerson, in a statement. “The new updated models build upon this proposition to provide even more value for our customers.”

The Acer Predator X34 X5 monitor over a light blue background.

Acer just opened up its metaphorical bag of goodies at Computex 2024, and a whole lot of monitors fell right out. There's a lot to sink your teeth into, but we've got our eyes on the OLED models -- one of them more than the others.

The Predator X27 F3 combines a WQHD OLED display with a 480Hz refresh rate, coming close to the best of both worlds for gamers. You won't have to choose between crisp visuals and high refresh rates here. However, its price is high enough to make your eyes water just as much as the lightning-fast gameplay might.

Acer has brought four new Predator gaming monitors to CES 2024 this year, two of which are OLED and two of which are mini-LED. Excluding Samsung, Acer might now have one of the largest lineups of OLED and mini-LED gaming displays.

Let's start with the Predator Z57, the largest and most audacious of the four. The massive mini-LED monitor uses the same panel as the Odyssey Neo G9, and boasts an insane resolution of 7680 x 2160 and 2,304 local dimming zones. Unlike the Odyssey Neo G9, however, the Predator Z57 only has a 120Hz refresh rate instead of 240Hz.
