Is Rainbow Six Siege cross-platform?

Rainbow Six Siege is one of the most popular FPS games on the market, yet it doesn’t offer full cross-platform support. Ubisoft has big plans for the tactical shooter in 2022 (including some more updates to crossplay), but right now, there are some limitations you and your friends will have to deal with when trying to play Rainbow Six Siege together.

Here’s what you need to know about crossplay and cross-progression in Rainbow Six Siege.

Rainbow Six Siege offers partial cross-platform support. That means players within the same console family can play together. For example, an Xbox One player can join a match with folks on Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 4 gamers can join in with those on PS5. PC, meanwhile, shares lobbies with those streaming on Stadia or Luna.

Does Rainbow Six Siege have cross-progression?

No. Rainbow Six Siege does not currently support cross-progression. However, players upgrading from Xbox One to Xbox Series X can transfer their account, as can players going from PS4 to PS5.

While crossplay support is limited to consoles in the same family, Ubisoft is hoping to roll out full crossplay support in the future. The Year 7 Roadmap indicates both crossplay and cross-progression are arriving in Season 4, along with a host of other updates.

“During Year 7, crossplay will become available between Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and cross-progression will be available between all platforms,” reads a statement on the Ubisoft website. “To make use of these features, you will need to link the same Ubisoft account to the relevant platform accounts you want to play on.”

Crossplay still won’t let PC players and console players join the same lobby, and you’ll be able to turn off crossplay entirely if you’d rather not party up with gamers on another platform. Also note that your multiplayer Rank will not carry over between console and PC, and you’ll instead have two separate Ranks — one for PC and one for consoles.

We don’t have a specific date for when crossplay support and Season 4 will drop, but sometime around December seems likely. Year 6 Season 4 arrived in November 2021, and Year 5 Season 4 arrived in December 2020. Based on the current progression of Season 1 and Season 2, December seems like the best fit for Year 7 Season 4.

Ubisoft was expected to roll out cross-platform support earlier this year. The studio has since bumped it to the tail end of Year 7, but we don’t have much longer to wait until Rainbow Six Siege finally offers full crossplay support.

Stay tuned in the coming months for more release date details.

Xbox Game Pass is getting tons of new games following Black Ops 6 success
A cockpit view in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

We know a lot of you are playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on Xbox right now, but the company just announced some games coming to Xbox Game Pass -- specifically the Game Pass Standard tier -- in the first half of November.

The biggest game coming to the service (and we mean that literally) is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Xbox and developers Asobo Studio previously reported that it will have a smaller install size than its predecessor -- 127GB versus 157GB -- but it'll also require 64GB of RAM. All of this is to help stream immense detail to the player as they fly around the world. Asobo says helped it to increase "the detail of its virtual environment by a factor of 4,000." Alongside the hyperrealistic graphics is a new career mode where you go through training and missions to become a pilot and a challenge mode where you compete against other pilots. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is coming to Game Pass at launch on November 19.

Is Monster Hunter Wilds cross-platform?
Two hunters ride mounts in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Of all the genres that we think need to be on the list of cross-platform games, hunting games like Monster Hunter Wilds have to be near the top. These are a rather unique style of game compared to the likes of Fallout 76, Genshin Impact, or Stardew Valley. Each of those has cooperative or competitive elements to them that are enhanced by cross-platform support, but nothing like what Monster Hunter Wilds has going on. The game will allow you to call in NPCs to help you on the hunt, but these games are best when you get a group of real friends together and embark on an epic quest to slay a giant beast, scavenge it for parts, and return to camp victorious. Monster Hunter Rise eventually got cross-platform support once it was ported off the Switch, but will Monster Hunter Wilds launch with this feature? Here's what you need to know about cross-platform support in one of our most anticipated upcoming games.
Is Monster Hunter Wilds cross-platform?

Monster Hunter Wilds will only have partial cross-platform support. The good news is that the part that it will have is crossplay, meaning that you and friends on either PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC can all hunt together with no issues. This feature can be disabled if you wish, but will be enabled by default to make sure desperate hunters can always find some aid when in need.
