Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope has a substantial season pass

Nintendo announced that Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will get a Season Pass. The company also announced it will be part of the Gold Edition of the game.

The Season Pass, which will be packaged into the Gold Edition, contains upcoming DLCs that will introduce additional story content with new heroes, quests, and battles. Other things that come with the Gold Edition of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope are the base game and the Galactic Prestige Pack, which includes three new stylish weapon skins for your team that can be unlocked immediately.

The key art for the Season Pass is reminiscent of the cover art for the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack, which featured Mario in a star-spangled blue silhouette against a gold background. Nintendo using the same color pattern and design for the Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Season Pass, with the addition of Rabbid Peach and a Spark, is a perfect callback to the classic Wii game 15 years after its release. Super Mario Galaxy has since been ported over to the Nintendo Switch via the limited-run Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope‘s predecessor, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, also got a Season Pass. That one included the Donkey Kong Adventure DLC, 16 new weapons, eight extra solo missions, and 5 new co-op maps. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Gold Edition will cost you $90, because it nets you more than the base game.

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope — both the regular and Gold Edition — is set to release on October 20.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has a new Yoshi’s Island track — and it’s perfect
Birdo sails through the sky in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Yoshi's Island course.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe just got even bigger. The fourth wave of its Booster Course Pack DLC just dropped on Nintendo Switch, adding eight more tracks to the racing game. The list includes some classics from the GameCube, Wii, and Game Boy Advance installments of the series, but it's most exciting addition is an entirely original one: Yoshi's Island.

As you may have guessed, the new course draws inspiration from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. On a visual level, it's one of the Mario Kart's most delightful tracks yet. The first leg has players racing through yellow rolling hills that are packed with little references to Yoshi's standalone games. From the starting line, you can see Poochy sitting on an oversized mailbox and catch some Chain Chomps delightfully bouncing around in the distance. Later, you'll spot some Goonies flying in the sky and a giant purple Blargg.

Surprise! Ubisoft delays Skull and Bones yet again
A pirate in Skull & Bones

The oft-delayed Skull and Bones still isn't ready for release, as Ubisoft confirmed it has delayed the pirate game for the sixth time. Skull and Bones will no longer release on March 9, and now just has a vague release window of "early 2023 to 2024." At this point, we can't really be surprised that this happened again.
First announced at E3 2017, Skull and Bones was initially intended for release in 2018. It finally resurfaced last year after a couple of delays with a November 8, 2022 release date. That morphed into a March 9, 2023 release date, which Ubisoft has now nixed for a vague release window that basically amounts to them wanting to release Skull and Bones sometime this fiscal year. Still, Ubisoft seems optimistic about the pirate game despite its never-ending string of delays.
"Players will be able to discover the beauty of Skull and Bones in the upcoming beta phase," a press release explains. "The additional time has already paid off and brought impressive improvements to its quality, which has been confirmed by recent playtests. We believe players will be positively surprised by its evolution. We have decided to postpone its release in order to have more time to showcase a much more polished and balanced experience and to build awareness."
This delay announcement comes as part of a larger update to the company's financial targets for this fiscal year and next, where Ubisoft detailed the negative impacts of "surprisingly slower" game sales for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Just Dance 2023. Not only has Skull and Bones been delayed, but Ubisoft has also canceled three unannounced games that were in development atits various studios. Ubisoft's "recent launches have not performed as well as expected," so the company is focusing its efforts "on building our brands and live services into some of the most powerful within the industry." Ubisoft will also reduce its spending by 200 million euros over the next two years.
Thankfully for Ubisoft, its next fiscal year, which runs through March 2024, looks a lot more interesting thanks to games like Assassin's Creed Mirage and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Now we just have to wait and see if Skull and Bones will also be part of that, or if it continues to get delayed.
