A single-player Iron Man game is coming from the studio behind Dead Space

Electronic Arts announced that it has partnered with Marvel to create a new Iron-Man game. It is being developed by EA Motive in Montreal and it will be a single-player, third-person, and action-adventure game.

Executive producer Olivier Proulx will be leading the development team on this new title, and he has worked on other past Marvel titles such as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Other notable names include Ian Frazier (Mass Effect: Andromeda, Star Wars Squadrons), Maëlenn Limineau (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit), and JF Poirier (Child of Light, Star Wars Battlefront II).

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful, and beloved characters,” says Marvel Games Vice President and Creative Director Bill Rosemann in a statement. “Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay — combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon — will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”

Proulx adds, “It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today. We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”

The game is currently in pre-production, but EA also notes that it is only one of several new titles in its partnership with Marvel.

Marvel has been working with many other game studios recently, including Skydance New Media and its upcoming game starring Black Panther and Captain America. Fireaxis Games will also release Marvel’s Midnight Suns in December, and Sony’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for launch next year.

The next Battlefield game is in development with help from Dead Space studio

EA Motive, the studio behind 2023's excellent Dead Space remake, confirmed that the next Battlefield game is in development and that it will assist with its development. Unfortunately, work on that new game also means that seasonal updates for Battlefield 2042 will cease after the conclusion of Season 7: Turning Point.

These announcements were made across two separate blog posts. The one about EA Motive explains that "a group of developers from Motive are joining the talented teams at Criterion, DICE, and Ripple Effect to continue unlocking the full potential of Battlefield." Dead Space remake creative director Roman Compos-Oriola and executive producer Philippe Ducharme were named as the leaders of this team.

Ereban: Shadow Legacy revives a style of single-player game I sorely miss
Key art for Ereban: Shadow Legacy.

Ereban: Shadow Legacy is a throwback to an era of single-player video games that I miss.

Earlier this year, I played 2008’s Prince of Persia after getting into the series with the release of The Lost Crown. That title was ahead of its time in many ways, but I appreciated that it was an all-killer, no-filler style of single-player game. I enjoy when games simply center the experience around a core idea or two, then explore that thoroughly in a compact six-to-eight-hour adventure that doesn’t overstay its welcome. I was facing a bit of game burnout after playing through long titles Like Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Dragon's Dogma 2 over the past couple of months, but Ereban: Shadow Legacy provided some respite for that.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game keeps the cult film’s zaniness intact
Survivors hide from a Klown in Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game.

The beauty of the movie Killer Klowns from Outer Space is the way the title tells you exactly what you are going to get. A small town has been invaded by aliens, who happen to look like Clowns. And you’d best believe they will be killing. Now, that elegant premise is getting its own asymmetrical horror video game.

I went hands-on with the upcoming multiplayer adaptation of this 1980’s horror-comedy from the Chiodo Brothers at PAX East. During my demo, I spoke with some of the team behind it to find out what it takes to adapt a cult classic like Killer Klowns. It's a story that begins with being in the right place at the right time, merging movie practical effect magic with gaming expertise, and finally answering one of life's great questions: What does clown blood look like?
Back from outer space
I arrive at the Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game demo to meet with Jared Gerritzen, chief creative officer at Illfonic. We are joined by Jordan Mathewson, the design director on the project. A long line stretches around the booth as PAX goers, some in Killer Klown cosplay, eagerly wait their turn to play. I can’t help but wonder how this crazy project came to be.
