The top 7 bestselling phones of 2023 were all … you guessed it

Seven of the top 10 bestselling handsets in 2023 were iPhones, according to data from research firm Counterpoint.

This marks the first time in Counterpoint’s tracking of such data that Apple’s handset has dominated the chart to this extent.

The research revealed the iPhone 14 to be the biggest seller, with 3.9% of all smartphone sales last year. The iPhone 14 Pro Max took the second spot, while the iPhone 14 Pro appeared in third place. The older iPhone 13 placed fourth.

The iPhone 15 handsets showed up in fifth, sixth, and seventh spots, lower down the chart mainly because the devices launched in the fall and so had less time to achieve high sales numbers. However, Counterpoint noted that the iPhone 15 Pro Max was the bestselling smartphone of the fourth quarter last year.

Apple’s budget phone, the iPhone SE2, failed to make it into the top 10 after appearing in the ninth spot a year earlier.

The first non-Apple phone to appear on Counterpoint’s top 10 chart is Samsung’s Galaxy A14 5G in eighth place, followed by the Galaxy A04e, and the Galaxy A14 4G. No, these are not flagship devices, but their affordable price tags have evidently helped Samsung to ship huge numbers of them in the global market.

The combined market share of the top 10 handsets in 2023 reached the highest total ever at 20%, up from 19% in the previous year.

“Apple, for the first time, captured the top seven positions in the global list of bestselling smartphones in 2023,” Counterpoint said, citing data from its Global Monthly Handset Model Sales Tracker. “Samsung secured the remaining three places in the list, marking an increase of one spot from the 2022 list.”

It added that no other brands have appeared in its top 10 chart since 2021.

I briefly tested the iPhone 16e camera and it surprised me
The camera on the iPhone 16e

It’s time to buy a new iPhone, and the camera isn’t that important to you, but you’d love to still take great photos on those special occasions. Chances are that if this is you, you’ll likely be considering the iPhone 16 Pro thanks to its three-camera setup.

However, considering that the camera may not be as important as battery life, you may also be considering the new iPhone 16e. However, when looking at it, you realize there’s only one camera. In 2025? Really? Yes, it’s a 48MP Fusion main camera that offers 2x telephoto zoom, but surely, more cameras will be better.

I started using the iPhone 16e and it’s better than I expected
The camera on the iPhone 16e

Yesterday marked a crucial moment for Apple as it launched the iPhone 16e around the world. Every iPhone launch is important, but the iPhone 16e is particularly important for a few reasons.

It’s the evolution of the Apple iPhone SE lineup, and like its spiritual ancestors, the iPhone 16e features a more affordable yet cutback version of the rest of the lineup. Unlike its ancestors, it also features several trademarks of the iPhone experience, including Face ID, an OLED display, and the latest-generation processor.

The iPhone 16e is here now, but is it the iPhone you should buy?
Hand holding iPhone 16e.

It’s decision time, folks. After much hype since it was announced, the iPhone 16e is now available in stores. The phone, which is now Apple’s budget phone, has a lot of great things going for it, assuming you fall into Apple’s demographic for the handset. And yet, if you plan on purchasing a new iPhone right now, there’s possibly a better phone you should buy instead, the iPhone 14.

After Apple announced the iPhone 16e, it became clear that it shares more similarities with the iPhone 14 than with the iPhone SE 3, which many initially believed the rumored “iPhone SE 4” would replace. The iPhone 16e may turn out to be a much better device overall. Consequently, it’s not surprising that the introduction of the iPhone 16e has led to the discontinuation of both the iPhone SE 3 and the iPhone 14.
