Riding on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that Samsung’s One UI 7 has been delayed until early 2025 comes a bit of news that makes the wait more bearable. Samsung is getting a redesigned camera app in One UI 7 that should make it dramatically more convenient to take photos using only one hand.

Android Authority shared a YouTube video and broke down the findings in it, but it’s worth watching the clip on your own. It’s just over 6 minutes long and provides a lot of information about the new interface.

User SamMobile posted a video detailing his hands-on experience with One UI 7. Around the 5-minute mark, he goes into specifics and shows off the new camera app, highlighting several noteworthy changes.

The biggest change is that viewfinder settings have been moved to the bottom of the screen for easier access when operating the camera with only one hand. It’s now available as a carousel, making it easier to scroll through all of the various options without trying to do Simone Biles-worthy stretches with your hand. In other words, you can now turn the flash on and off, change the aspect ratio, and much more without diving deep into menus.

The app will also display the relevant settings automatically depending on the camera mode you have selected. We first saw these changes a while back in leaked screenshots, but the images weren’t clear. This video shows a much closer look at the app.

Keep in mind that Samsung hasn’t yet announced the One UI 7.0 Beta, so the final version of the app might change by the time it releases sometime next year. Either way, with everything this new interface brings to the table, it’s worth getting excited about.

Samsung users, beware: One UI 7 could jumble your home screen
The Now Brief on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

If you haven't yet upgraded to the latest version of One UI 7, take a screenshot of your home screen layout before you do. According to some reports, upgrading could swap up your homescreen like a shaken Scrabble box. One UI 7 doesn't support the same number of grid layouts as its predecessor, largely because it now makes room for the Now Bar.

One UI 6 supported grid layouts of 4x5, 4x6, 5x5, and 5x6. One UI 7 drops that support to just 4x6 and 5x6, according to Android Authority. If you currently use one of the unsupported layouts, things will look a bit different when you upgrade — and you'll have to decide how you want to arrange the home screen from that point.

Hey Samsung — I wish you had copied this OnePlus 13 feature
The Galaxy S25 Plus in Navy vs the OnePlus 13 in Blue

Samsung’s latest smartphones are finally here and with a few tweaks to the build size and weight — plus the addition of a new ultrawide camera in the Galaxy S25 Ultra — they represent some of the most polished smartphones that Samsung has ever made.

Yet, they also follow the same mold of Samsung’s previous smartphones and have launched amid a backdrop of intense competition in the U.S. and abroad. The latest competitor for the Galaxy S25 series in the US was launched by OnePlus just a few weeks ago, and having used the OnePlus 13 series for several weeks, there’s one key feature that I wish Samsung had copied.

Samsung’s Now Bar is already getting more useful
The Now Bar on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra's lock screen.

Samsung's Now Bar is a particularly useful feature that lets you see notifications, your currently playing music, and much more right from your lock screen -- and now it's getting Google Maps integration ahead of the One UI 7 rollout. This feature is already available for the Galaxy S25 series but hasn't yet come to the Galaxy S24 or earlier generations.

Google Maps integration in One UI 7 is live from Google Maps v25.04.01.717254420 as of this moment, per tipster Tarun Vats. You can now see upcoming turns and other directions just by glancing at the lock screen, making it much easier to maneuver around unfamiliar locales.
