Deep Silver takes over Homefront: The Revolution development from Crytek

Koch Media Group has acquired the rights to the Homefront franchise from Crytek, including all work completed thus far on Crytek Nottingham’s upcoming Homefront: The Revolutiona press release confirms. The game, along with its developers, will transfer to the newly-founded Deep Silver Dambuster Studios, also in Nottingham.

“We are thrilled to see another great IP joining the Deep Silver universe,” said Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media Group. “We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years.” The Revolution picks up a few years after the first Homefront, with the new story tasking you with fomenting insurrection against the rooted North Korean occupation of Philadelphia.

The IP transfer comes as part of a larger corporate restructuring for Crytek which will hone down their developmental work to focus on publishing. The reorganization follows rumors of financial difficulties leading to unpaid employees in Crytek’s UK and American studios, as reported by Kotaku. Development of the action co-op game Hunt: Horrors of the Guilded Age will transfer from Crytek’s Austin, TX studio to Germany, leaving behind only the CryEngine support team in Austin.

For its part Crytek seems optimistic about the move. In a press release from the company, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli added “As we look to cement Crytek’s future, this strategic deal with Koch Media would allow us to continue with our ambitious goals to become an online publisher.”

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers may just satiate your Bloodborne appetite
Wuchang in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Bloodborne is still considered one of the best games FromSoftware has ever made, but the studio hasn't given it much love since launch. We're still left hoping for a PC port, remaster, or sequel to bring us back to that world. That has left the Soulslike space wide open for faster-paced, Bloodborne-inspired games to fill players' craving. A couple of years ago, Lies of P did just that. And while Lies of P: Overture is coming soon, another Souslike that Bloodborne fans should keep on their radar this summer is coming. That would be Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.

I went hands-on with Leenzee Games' Wuchang: Fallen Feathers at GDC 2025 and found a tried and true Soulslike through and through, albeit with faster-paced combat that feels reminiscent of Bloodborne than other FromSoftware games. Until PlayStation or FromSoftware finally announces a remaster or follow-up to Bloodborne, you should probably check out Wuchang: Fallen Feathers instead of waiting around for an announcement that may never come.

Blades of Fire is the most surprising game I played at GDC 2025
Key art for Blades of Fire.

I went into my Blades of Fire demo at GDC 2025 with little hype or expectation. I came out ridiculously excited about it.

If you haven't heard of Blades of Fire, it's a new action game all about forging from MercurySteam, the developer behind Metroid Dread and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Its gameplay feels Souls-inspired, but it sticks out from any other action game I've played in how combat works. Not only do players need to forge their own weapons and upkeep them through repairs with gathered resources, but they also need to be very specific on where and how they attack enemies.
