Wheels of justice: Take a closer look at the new 205-mph, 7,000-pound Batmobile

In the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice flick, Bruce Wayne will lock horns with Kal-El in a highly-anticipated and deeply scrutinized big-screen matchup. The prominent superduo have tangled many times over the glossy pages of the comic book, but never before has their clash been this high-profile and with this big of a budget.

We expect the two to settle their differences at the end of the film, but to stand up to Superman, Batman’s going to need every tool in his utility belt. He’s brilliant and in perfect physical condition, sure, but at the end of the day he’s a mortal man going up against a near-invincible, godlike alien. He’s going to need some backup.

Supporting the Dark Knight, as always, is the Batmobile. Mr. Wayne is ditching the Christopher Nolan-era Tumbler this time around for a longer, leaner variant that seems to combine the Tumbler’s militaristic stylings with the classic rocketship looks of the originals.

At the 2015 Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment put the vehicle on full display, giving us a closer look at the car’s controls and what lurks under the aggressive armor.

“Single-handedly designed and fabricated in near complete seclusion by the Batman, this infamous pursuit and capture vehicle has earned its reputation as the apex predator on the mean streets of Gotham City,” said Warner Bros. “Over powered with an unmatched hybrid of prototype military and civilian performance technologies, this top machine has been estimated to reach speeds of up to 205 mph. The Batmobile’s imposing defense capabilities, supported by stolen Wayne Industries technologies, have been integrated with the latest in covert military grade armaments, stealth and active protection systems.”

The 20-foot-long, 7,000-pound beast also equips two .50 caliber machine guns up front, which is an interesting addition considering Batman has a strict no-kill rule. Despite all the criticism out there, we’re anxiously anticipating the film’s U.S. release on March 25, 2016.

Only a short month and half ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk told investors that outside of the just-released driverless robotaxi, a regular Tesla model priced at $25,000 would be “pointless” and “silly”.

"It would be completely at odds with what we believe,” Musk said.

It looks like the end of the road for Cruise robotaxis
A Cruise autonomous car.

Autonomous-driving operations at Cruise look certain to end after its main backer, General Motors (GM), said it will stop funding the initiative.

GM, which has owned about 90% of Cruise since 2016, announced the decision in a statement shared on Tuesday. It follows a challenging period for Cruise after one of its autonomous cars ran over a woman after she was knocked into its path by a human-driven car in San Francisco in October 2023. The incident led to California regulators suspending Cruise's license to test its driverless cars on the state's streets, a decision that prompted Cruise to pause operations in other locations where it operated. It restarted low-level testing in Arizona in May 2024.

But is one of these SUVs actually better, or are they just different? We put the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the Kia EV9 head to head to find out.
Design
There are some similarities in the designs of the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the Kia EV9, but they also look a little different. First, the similarities. Both vehicles are clearly SUVs, with larger blocky shapes. But, while the Kia EV9 has straight lines and sharper angles, the Ioniq 9 is a little curvier, with a rounded roofline and sculpted curves in the side panels.
