Is that the Toyota FT-1? Nope, it’s Ferrari’s ‘SP America’, a 250 GTO-inspired one-off

Ferrari isn’t primarily known for making custom cars, but that hasn’t stopped the madmen from Maranello from churning out a fair number of them. The most recent example of a custom Ferrari, from the sinister sounding Special Projects Division is the F12 Berlinetta-based SP America.

The car will be debuted at the ongoing 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. According to the Supercar Kids the SP America will be on display alongside the other Ferraris at the Ferrari Cavalcade.

However, despite its presence alongside other “showroom” models, it is almost certain that the SP America was commissioned by some inspired billionaire and has in fact already been sold.

That might explain why there are few details available about the car, particularly in the form of performance specs. That being said, even if it is essentially a stock F12 underneath with “just” 730 horsepower and a 0 to 60 time of 3.1 seconds, that billionaire should be fine.

Styling wise the SP America takes some inspiration from the classic 250 GTO, including a long hood ridge, a trio of front vents, and a ducktail spoiler. However, despite these cues, the SP America seems to look a lot more like Toyota’s recent concept supercar the FT-1.

Not that I am complaining mind you; I wish all cars looked more like the FT-1.

More details about the SP America and it is ownership will likely be available as the car makes the rounds of various events like Goodwood and the Pebble Beach Concourse. So check back to find out more.

It looks like the end of the road for Cruise robotaxis
A Cruise autonomous car.

Autonomous-driving operations at Cruise look certain to end after its main backer, General Motors (GM), said it will stop funding the initiative.

GM, which has owned about 90% of Cruise since 2016, announced the decision in a statement shared on Tuesday. It follows a challenging period for Cruise after one of its autonomous cars ran over a woman after she was knocked into its path by a human-driven car in San Francisco in October 2023. The incident led to California regulators suspending Cruise's license to test its driverless cars on the state's streets, a decision that prompted Cruise to pause operations in other locations where it operated. It restarted low-level testing in Arizona in May 2024.

But it will have to contend with Hyundai’s sister company in order to truly gain the title of best electric SUV in its price range. The Kia EV9 has been a go-to option for a few years now.

But is one of these SUVs actually better, or are they just different? We put the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the Kia EV9 head to head to find out.
Design
There are some similarities in the designs of the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the Kia EV9, but they also look a little different. First, the similarities. Both vehicles are clearly SUVs, with larger blocky shapes. But, while the Kia EV9 has straight lines and sharper angles, the Ioniq 9 is a little curvier, with a rounded roofline and sculpted curves in the side panels.
