Gotcha! Lamborghini’s Huracán Super Trofeo racer makes an early appearance

The Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo, a new racing version of Lambo’s latest supercar, isn’t supposed to show its scowling face until tomorrow. Yet public relations choreography means nothing in the age of the Internet.

The car was spotted and recorded by Carspotter Jeroen, ahead of its scheduled debut at the Quail, a motorsport event coinciding with the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Immediately apparent are a widened, lowered stance and plenty of aerodynamic enhancements. More details will have to wait until the Super Trofeo’s official reveal, but we do know that it will use the same 5.2-liter V10 as the stock Huracán.

This racing Lamborghini will debut in the 2015 Super Trofoe series, which pits drivers against each other in identical Lambos. Just as the Huracán LP610-4 is replacing the Gallardo in showrooms, so the new Super Trofeo will replace the current Gallardo-based racer.

However, that won’t happen all at once. Lamborghini will reportedly let teams who have already purchased Gallardo Super Trofeo cars compete, albeit in a separate class.

As with the Gallardo-based racer, the Huracán Super Trofeo will be prepared by Squadra Corse, Lamborghini’s racing department. It will be interesting to see if this leads to more robust participation in other areas of racing, or some crazy street cars like the limited-edition Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse.

For now, though, get ready for the full reveal of the Huracán Super Trofeo. We’ll be on the ground getting all of the details.

While trade wars, tariffs, and wavering subsidies are very much in the cards for the auto industry in 2025, global sales of electric vehicles (EVs) are still expected to rise substantially next year, according to S&P Global Mobility.

"2025 is shaping up to be ultra-challenging for the auto industry, as key regional demand factors limit demand potential and the new U.S. administration adds fresh uncertainty from day one," says Colin Couchman, executive director of global light vehicle forecasting for S&P Global Mobility.

A data leak led to around 800,000 Volkswagen (VW) electric vehicles (EVs) having their location exposed online for several months, according to a report by German news magazine Der Spiegel.

The global incident impacted owners of EVs from VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda, with real-time location showing for the affected vehicles, whether they were at home, driving along the street, or, in the words of Der Spiegel, parked “in front of the brothel.”

Given existing tariffs and what’s in store from the Trump administration, you’d be forgiven for thinking the global race toward lower electric vehicle (EV) prices will not reach U.S. shores in 2025.

After all, Chinese manufacturers, who sell the least expensive EVs globally, have shelved plans to enter the U.S. market after 100% tariffs were imposed on China-made EVs in September.
