Alienware is playing coy with its two new QD-OLED monitors

Alienware is playing coy with two new QD-OLED gaming monitors that are expected to launch soon. During a livestream for TwitchCon, the company provided a brief look at the two new displays, which will be available in January of next year.

We only know some basic details. One of the displays is a 32-inch 4K QD-OLED display. This is the easier one to speculate about, as we’ve seen a few other 4K QD-OLED monitors already announced. The Dough Spectrum Black is a 32-inch OLED monitor with a 4K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 240Hz. Asus announced an identical monitor as well. If Alienware is using the same panel, its 32-inch monitor should reach 240Hz.

The other monitor is something new. All we know right now is that it’s the first QD-OLED monitor with a 360Hz refresh rate. Given that we’re expecting 4K QD-OLED monitors in the first part of next year with a 240Hz refresh rate, there’s a good chance this is a 1440p display. That’s pure speculation at this point, though. We haven’t seen other QD-OLED monitors touting a 360Hz refresh rate, so we’ll just have to wait until Alienware has more to share.

Regardless, both monitors look like they’re worth getting excited about, especially since Alienware’s 34 QD-OLED still tops of the list of the best gaming monitors, and it’s among the best OLED monitors you can buy.

We’ve seen some competitors since, most notably the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8. But no monitor has been able to match the high-end value with Alienware’s first QD-OLED display. Hopefully, that trend continues with Alienware’s two new QD-OLED displays, as it’s an area mostly dominated by expensive monitors like the Asus ROG Swift PG27AQDM.

Alienware confirmed that the monitors will release in January of next year, so we’ll likely get a much closer look at them at CES 2024. We also expect to see similar QD-OLED monitors on display from brands like MSI and Asus. There’s a good chance other brands will have their versions of the 32-inch 4K monitor, at least, but Alienware might exclusively offer the 360Hz display. For now, all we can do is wait until Alienware has more to share.

Asus’ 480Hz OLED gaming monitor is cheaper than expected

Asus is finally sharing more details about its upcoming ROG Swift PG27AQDP, which looks to earn a slot among the best gaming monitors. We first saw this monitor at the beginning of the year, where it stood out as the first OLED monitor ever to reach at 480Hz refresh rate at 1440p. Since originally showing it off, Asus has been quiet about the display -- until now.

The PG27AQDP officially launched at Gamescom, and it's arriving at a shockingly low price of $1,000. That's not cheap for a gaming monitor, or even an OLED monitor, but it's much lower than the competition. The Acer Predator X27U F3, which matches Asus' display in terms of specs and is due out any week now, could cost as much as $1,600, Acer says. It's possible Acer will make a last-minute pricing adjustment in the face of the PG27AQDP.

I’ve never seen a gaming monitor like Alienware’s latest

Alienware is cooking up something interesting. The brand already produces some of the best gaming monitors you can buy, including the legendary Alienware 34 QD-OLED, but now it's diving into uncharted territory. The AW2725QF is a 27-inch 4K gaming monitor that comes with a dual refresh rate feature, allowing you to switch between 4K at 180Hz and 1080p at 360Hz at the press of a button.

We've seen this feature before on the LG UltraGear Dual Mode OLED, but Alienware's take is different. For starters, it's available on a 27-inch monitor -- LG's is a 32-inch monitor -- and it's switching between 180Hz and 360Hz. The size plays a big role here, too. Given that the Dual Mode OLED is 32 inches, the drop down to 1080p is very noticeable. On the AW2725QF, the switch between 4K and 1080p shouldn't be as drastic given the smaller size of the screen.

No one is buying AMD’s new Zen 5 CPUs, and it’s painfully obvious why

AMD's new Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X, which were aimed at claiming a spot among the best processors, are off to a rocky start. According to early sales numbers from German retailer Mindfactory, the number of new AMD CPUs the website has shipped is only in the double digits, despite being on the market for nearly a week.

Mindfactory is only one retailer, but it actually displays the number of products it sold on its website. The Ryzen 5 9600X has seen over 20 sales, while the Ryzen 7 9700X has had over 30. You can see the lack of enthusiasm for Zen 5 CPUs elsewhere, though. On Amazon's bestsellers page, the last-gen Ryzen 7 7800X3D ranks in the first spot. The first Zen 5 CPU on the list, the Ryzen 7 9700X, is in 47th place.
