HP webOS tablet prices slashed at Best Buy and elsewhere, availability is scarce

The technology world is still reeling after the news emerged last week that Hewlett-Packard would be discontinuing development on its webOS platform. The announcement came on August 18, slightly more than a month after the company released its first webOS-powered tablet, the TouchPad. The end of support for the platform means that prices are being marked down, if you can still find a retailer with the tablet in stock.

Best Buy posted a fact sheet on its website detailing the TouchPad situation. A look at the company’s online store shows that the device is already sold out online, and is unavailable for in-store pickup. If you can find the tablet in a BB store near you, you’ll be able to pick up a 16 GB model for just $99.99, or a 32 GB model for $149.99, a savings of more than $400 on each device. Staples has an even bigger deal on the 16 GB model, with a $49.99 price after an instant $50 savings, but the TouchPad is sold out there as well (online, that is).

Of course, just because the tablet is sold out online, that doesn’t mean it can’t be gotten. If you really want a tablet on the cheap and don’t mind the fact that you’re buying a piece of tech that won’t be getting anymore official software updates, ever, it might be worth a trip into your nearby electronics retailer. Note that there is a one item per customer limit, and that all sales on TouchPad tablets are final since it’s a clearance item.

A girl plays games on the HP Victus 15.6-inch gaming laptop with a connected external display.

HP laptop deals are always crossing our radar, but we seldom see the kind of markdowns that Best Buy is offering on one of the company’s best gaming laptops. For a limited time, you’ll be able to purchase the HP Victus 15.6-inch Full HD Gaming Laptop for only $550. That's very cheap for a new PC, especially considering the fact that this model normally goes for $800.

Why you should buy the HP Victus laptop
Gaming is one of the most rigorous activities you can put a computer through. While this HP Victus model is on the lower end of the component spectrum, it still has the juice for AAA games on lower settings. Equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS CPU with a Radeon RX 6550M GPU, you’ll have no issue blasting your way through round after round of 1080p online and non-network gameplay.

Best Buy just discounted this HP 2-in-1 laptop from $880 to $550
The HP ENVY x360 14-Inch 2-in-1 with a menu open.

If you tend to commute a lot, then you'll likely want a smaller laptop that's easy to carry and is well-built, so you don't have to constantly worry about babying it. One great option is the HP Envy 2-in-1 14, a lightweight yet powerful 2-in-1 laptop that's perfect for those who need a little bit more out of their smaller laptop than just the basics. Even better, while it usually goes for $880, you can grab it now from Best Buy for just $550, making it one of the best laptops you can grab for that price.

Why you should buy the HP Envy 2-in-1 14
This small 14-inch laptop runs a 1920 x 1200 resolution, which is actually quite perfect for its size since there's a much better pixel density than with larger screens; plus, it's touch-enabled and can hit 300 nits of peak brightness. At just 0.67 inches thick, it's incredibly small for what it has to offer, and the 3.08 pounds of weight make it easy to slip in a bag and carry it around with you all day without feeling like you're lugging around a brick. It also has some reasonably good battery life, although the more impressive thing is that you can fast charge it up to 50% of the battery capacity in 30 minutes, so if you're always on the go, this is a good solution.
