Nvidia DLSS is bigger than ever and primed for the Windows 11 launch

Nvidia is expanding its Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) feature on all fronts. The company announced 28 new games that will support the upscaling tech over the coming months, as well as drivers for the upcoming Windows 11 release and a new feature that could make games look better than ever.

DLSS is now supported in over 100 games, over a quarter of which were announced on Monday. Leading the lineup is Alan Wake Remasteredwhich is an updated version of the 2010 title from Remedy Entertainment that’s set to release on October 5. Nvidia claims up to a 2x performance improvement at 4K, with a card like the RTX 3060 Ti jumping from 53.5 frames per second (fps) to 97.1 fps in the DLSS Performance mode.

The other supported games don’t come with the same name recognition. Unlike previous DLSS announcements, this one is stuffed to the brim with smaller indie titles like Severed Steel, Cions of Vega, and Powerslide Legends. The wide adoption is on the back of Nvidia’s DLSS plugins for Unreal Engine 4 and 5, as well as Unity.

Unreal Engine and Unity are both free, enabling indie developers to use them without the upfront cost. In the past, Nvidia required developers to file an application and be approved to access DLSS. Now, the DLSS software development kit (SDK) is freely available, and developers can access the plugins through Unity and Unreal free of charge.

Although most of the new games aren’t AAA blockbusters, Nvidia’s latest driver supports several large current and upcoming titles. The latest driver supports the recently-launched Deathloopas well as the upcoming Diablo II: Resurrected and Far Cry 6. This driver also comes with support for Windows 11 ahead of its October 5 launch.

The new driver brings support for DirectX 12 Ultimate features on Windows 11, such as Auto HDR and DirectStorage. Along with the Game Ready driver, Nvidia launched its Studio driver, as well, supporting Quadro and other work-related graphics tasks on upcoming PCs. Nvidia says the new driver also brings enhancements to Nvidia Broadcast “thanks to under the hood Windows 11 changes.”

Nvidia is continuing to expand DLSS with new games and broader support, but it’s also expanding the feature in another way. The company announced a new version of DLSS called Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing (DLAA) that’s debuting on The Elder Scrolls Online test servers starting on Monday.

In short, DLAA is DLSS with the upscaling portion removed. It still relies on Nvidia’s deep learning system in DLSS, but it uses that information for better anti-aliasing instead of upscaling. Nvidia says the new feature is for players “who have spare GPU headroom and want higher levels of image quality.”

The Elder Scrolls Online is the first game to support the feature. That said, it appears DLAA is based on the same backbone as DLSS, so more titles could receive support in the near future. Nvidia also announced DLSS for The Elder Scrolls Online, which is available in the game now. Like DLSS, DLAA is only supported on RTX 20-series and 30-series graphics cards.

This DLSS news comes as adoption for AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology has slowed. Intel is likely putting some pressure on Nvidia, as well. The company is set to release its first add-in desktop graphics cards in early 2022 with XeSS, which is an upscaling feature that’s similar to DLSS.

Forget the RTX 5090 — PC gaming is more accessible than ever
Hi-Fi Rush on the KTC G42P5.

$2,000 graphics cards, tempered glass cases, and power supplies that routinely top 1,000 watts. It's easy to get caught up in how expensive PC gaming can be in 2025, throw up your hands, and say to hell with all of it. You don't need an RTX 5090 to play games on PC in 2025, though. Now, more than ever before, PC gaming is available for just about everyone.

Not literally everyone, mind you, but there's been a significant decrease in the barrier to entry for PC gaming over the past several years. It's a story that's been lost amid rising graphics card prices and PC ports that call for high-end hardware. But don't be dismayed. Although it's not always the best experience, getting into PC gaming today is much easier than it was in years past.

Microsoft just added a secret file sharing feature to Windows 11
Drag Tray feature on Windows Insiders build.

Another secret feature has been spotted in one of the latest Windows 11 Insider preview builds. Discovered by X user phantomofearth and reported by Tom's Hardware, it appears that Microsoft is trying out a 'Drag Tray' for sharing files. When you pick up a file and drag it toward the top of the screen, a tray will drop down with different sharing options.

The feature was found in Build 22635.4805 but it's not included in Microsoft's release notes, which means there's no saying if or when it will make it to the general release of Windows 11. Anything that makes sharing files easier is a welcome feature, however, so fingers crossed that Microsoft gets it working well and decides to push it to everyone.

AMD’s new integrated graphics are almost 70% faster than an RTX 4070
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su holding up a chip at Computex 2024.

AMD's new integrated graphics look mighty powerful. According to AMD's marketing materials, the upcoming Ryzen AI Max+ 395 chip with Radeon 8060S integrated graphics is upwards of 68.1% faster than a laptop RTX 4070, which is currently our pick for the best graphics card for laptops.

You can see the results below. AMD tested the Radeon 8060S in a variety of games at 1080p with the High graphics preset. In most games, the margins are tight. However, you can see some significant leads for AMD in titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Baulder's Gate 3, Hitman 3, and especially Borderlands 3, where that 68.1% increase comes from, as highlighted by Notebookcheck.
