Samsung’s new Odyssey gaming laptop comes with brand new Nvidia GPU

The Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 might be the main highlights of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, but the company had a surprise up its sleeve for gamers, too. Launching alongside the two flagship devices in Samsung’s 2021 computing lineup is the Galaxy Book Odyssey.

Unlike the flagship Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360, the Galaxy Book Odyssey sports a brand new and powerful Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti Max Q GPU under the hood — with the additional option for the RTX 3050 Max-Q, too. It also maxes out with up to 32GB of RAM (user upgradable), as well as 2TB of expandable and changeable solid-state drive storage. Powering the entire package is Intel’s Core i7 and Core i5 H-series Tiger Lake processors.

Other highlights on the device include its plethora of ports, including HDMI, USB Type-C, and traditional USB A 3.2 ports. Samsung says it’s one of the thinnest and most powerful gaming laptops the company has ever made, yet it also pointed out how it’s powerful enough to play “high quality” Xbox Game Pass Games on PC.

Of course, with an Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti Max Q GPU, other games like Cyberpunk 2077, or Microsoft Flight Simulator should not be a problem, either. Samsung says it’s “a perfect match for gamers about to embark on their wildest adventures” and mentions the device is designed for “everyday use to heavy-duty gaming and B2B usage.”

The laptop is sized at 15.6 inches, in a Mystic Black Color, with a unique silver Samsung Odyssey logo on the lid. There’s also an enhanced cooling system onboard the laptop. As for charging, Samsung is bundling in a 135-watt USB Type-C charger, instead of the barreled charger you’ll find on typical gaming laptops.

Galaxy Book Odyssey joins the Galaxy Book, Galaxy Book Pro, and Galaxy Book Pro 360 in Samsung’s 2021 lineup. The Galaxy Book is meant to be more of a laptop for education markets, and “accessible for everyone” with the same great processing power and performance as the two other flagship devices.

Samsung says Galaxy Book Odyssey is coming later this summer, in August, priced starting at $1,400. That’s several months after the Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360, which are set to become available next month in May.

AMD’s next-gen laptop GPU may rival Nvidia’s RTX 5090

AMD hasn't had much of a presence lately in any of the best gaming laptops -- at least not in the graphics department. However, according to a new leak from Golden Pig Upgrade Pack on Bilibili, AMD isn't giving up on its laptop GPUs, and is in fact readying four discrete graphics cards made for laptops. The top configuration may actually rival one of Nvidia's next-gen top GPUs, but that doesn't mean it'll be equally as good.

The leaker shared a slide detailing the four laptop GPUs that AMD is said to be planning to release in its upcoming RDNA 4 lineup. Although it doesn't reveal the actual names of the graphics cards, it does show the chip names, as well as power consumption ranges and memory configurations.

HP’s new 2-in-1 laptop packs a 3K OLED touchscreen

HP just unveiled three new laptops during its yearly HP Imagine event, and if you use your laptop for work, there's plenty to be interested in. The most eye-catching offering of the trio is the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip, which is a 2-in-1 laptop with a 3K OLED touchscreen. There are two more laptops for professionals, and HP ticks the box for Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD enthusiasts, as the three laptops come with different CPUs.

Let's start with the OmniBook Ultra Flip. This is a 14-inch convertible laptop that comes equipped with Intel's latest Lunar Lake processors, offering up to the Core 9 Ultra 288V with eight cores and eight threads and a maximum clock speed of 5.1GHz. The lowest variant sports the Ultra 5 226V, which also has eight cores and eight threads, but it only boosts up to 4.5GHz. All variants come with integrated Intel Arc graphics, and while the top two chips get the 16GB version, the less premium offerings come with the 8GB version.
