Pokemon’s next generation can’t get here soon enough, and fans of the series are likely keeping an eye out for the best way to purchase their desired edition of the newest game. Amazon has you covered if you’re a Prime member: subscribers to the company’s program can get a $10 credit if they pre-order Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield.

Amazon Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield Nintendo Switch Pre-order Credit

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are available for pre-order on Amazon’s website and you can set up free two-day shipping if you’re an Amazon Prime member so you receive your physical copy of the game on the launch day. The game itself costs $60 and this deal is only for physical copies of the game. The December release date is a placeholder, but the game is expected in late 2019. While you wait for your copy to arrive, grab and play through a few of the best Nintendo Switch exclusive games.

The $10 credit is something Amazon has been doing for a while, attempting to court gamers away from the typical brick-and-mortar retailers and their various offerings. The promotional credit will expire 60 days after it has been applied to your Amazon account and can be applied to any products or digital content sold by Amazon or Amazon Digital Services (this does include eBooks).

Beyond Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee and Let’s Go Pikachu, Pokemon Sword/Shield will be the first in the main series to be released on a home console. The Nintendo Switch is a hybrid, but there’s a level of hardware that the traditional Pokemon RPGs haven’t had access to. This eighth generation of Pokemon will be set in the Galar Region. The starter creatures this time around are Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. Players have already started to take their sides in the starters’ fandoms, but there’s an entire roster of new evolutions and entirely new Pokemon that will be unveiled when Pokemon Sword/Shield launches in late 2019.

The Digital Trends team is regularly publishing the best deals around and the many holidays tend to be some of the best times to grab new tech and games. Check out our guide on the best Memorial Day deals for 2019 so you’re prepared when May 27 rolls around.

Pokemon Sword and Shield differences explained
Pokemon Sword Shield

The Pokémon series has had a solid formula since the beginning. Game Freak manages to keep players, both new and old, coming back to check out their latest Pokémon installment. One of the ways the series manages to keep players' attention is by adding different, new Pokémon with every iteration of the game. Additionally, a lot of Pokémon will be exclusive to one game, which drives players to find someone with the opposite game to trade with and help fill out their Pokédex. Game Freak kept this pattern up with Pokémon Sword and Shield but also threw in a few new changes for players to experience.

If you're having trouble deciding which game you want, don't fret. Both games will definitely provide you with hours of fun. Knowing what the differences are between the two games, however, can help you decide which you would prefer to have. Depending on your Pokémon experience, you may want to find the game with the cutest Pokémon or the best cooking ingredients. To help you narrow down your search a little, here are the differences between Pokémon Sword and Shield.
