Call of Duty: Black Ops III will have no campaign on PS3 and Xbox 360

In an announcement sure to raise a few eyebrows, Activision and Treyarch have revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops III for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will not include the Campaign mode featured as part of the PlayStation 4/Xbox One/PC release. Instead the last-gen versions will just feature the Multiplayer and Zombies gameplay modes.

According to the announcement, the “ambitious scope” of the cooperative campaign, which can be played cooperatively by 1-4 players, “could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware.” A number of other features designed to leverage the new hardware, such as the Weapon Paint Shop and new suite of eSports tools, will also be absent from the PS3/X360 versions.

Last-gen players will not be left entirely without a narrative experience, since all versions of the game will still include “Shadows of Evil,” the Lovecraftian 1940s film noir-inspired zombies gameplay mode. The narrative elements of the mode will be supported by its cast of Hollywood notables, including Heather Graham, Jeff Goldblum, Ron Perlman, and others. Call of Duty campaigns have also always been secondary to the competitive multiplayer experience, which will still be accessible by all players: “PS3 and Xbox 360 players can continue to look forward to a new experience of Black Ops 3 multiplayer, including the new momentum-based, chain-movement system, as well as the all-new Specialist class of 9 Black Ops soldiers, which fundamentally change the way players engage in combat.”

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Black Ops III will retail at a recommended price of $50 (as opposed to $60 for the new-gen versions). That will also include a bonus download of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, which remains among the best-selling video games of all time.

What do you think? Is this fair encouragement for players to upgrade to the new generation of consoles, or is it an insult to series fans? Would you rather play a limited and slightly discounted version on the older consoles, or skip it altogether? Sound off in the comments!

Whether you're new to the mode or know all the tips and tricks from past games, there's one element that has most players scratching their heads. Augments are hardly explained in Black Ops 6 and are largely ignored because of this. However, ignoring this mechanic will only make life harder for you and your team. We've done all the research required to tell you how Augments work and which ones you should try to get first in Black Ops 6.
How Augments work in Black Ops 6

In short, Augments are equippable passive perks that add an additional minor or major effect to either a Perk, field upgrade, or ammo mod. Each one of these has six possible augments -- three minor and three major -- that each give a different buff. But there are two things you need to do before you can even begin tinkering with these Augments.

After the backlash surrounding the Zombies mode in Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has returned to the round-based roots we all know and love. Well, the structure might be familiar, but this mode has more than its fair share of new tricks that will see you getting swarmed in seconds if you can't learn to adapt. If you're familiar with how Call of Duty handles its Zombies mode, you will know that there's a lot more you need to know besides just shooting zombies if you want to make it to the later rounds. If you want to survive as long as possible, we have the key tips and tricks to withstand the zombie horde in Black Ops 6.
The basics still apply

There are a few tips from past Zombies games that will serve you well here in Black Ops 6 that are worth a quick reminder. Starting off with the need to conserve ammo in the early game. Zombies are weakest in the first handful of rounds, but ammo is incredibly scarce. You can't count on getting more when you need it, so save as much as possible and try to melee as many zombies as possible. Only shoot if you get swarmed, need to save a teammate, or when a boss or elite shows up.
