‘Deus Ex Go’ puzzler spinoff will hit app stores this summer

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided star Adam Jensen will follow in the footsteps of Hitman‘s Agent 47 and Tomb Raider‘s Lara Croft this summer with the launch of Deus Ex Go, a mobile puzzler that reimagines the Deus Ex universe in the context of a turn-based virtual board game.

In Deus Ex Go, players guide mechanically augmented protagonist Adam Jensen across a series of dangerous environments using a turn-based setup. Jensen can use either stealth or lethal countermeasures to deal with patrolling enemies as he works his way toward each level’s exit.

Deus Ex-specific mechanics like hacking and upgradable augmentations also play a role in solving many of the game’s trickier puzzles. As players progress through the game, they’ll gradually uncover the truth behind a terrorist plot with help from allies within Task Force 29 and the Juggernaut Collective.

Patrick Naud, head of Go series creator Square Enix Montreal, revealed that the upcoming sequel will introduce a level editor, among other new features.

“With Deus Ex Go, we really want to take the Go series to another level,” Naud explained. “Building on the learnings of Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go, our goal is to push the experience a step further in terms of visual treatment and game design in order to bring you a fresh, reimagined puzzle experience that celebrates the franchise.”

Naud continued: “Our team has also been hard at work designing a smart, game-changing new feature that will allow you to expand your game experience: the puzzle maker.”

Deus Ex Go marks the Go series’ third entry over the last two years, with Hitman Go originally premiering in 2014. Hitman Go was well-received upon its launch, leading Square Enix to publish a port for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita earlier this year.

Square Enix hopes to drum up interest in the upcoming Deus Ex Go with this week’s launch of The Go Collection, an app bundle that collects the iOS versions of Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go. Normally priced at $8, The Go Collection will be available for $6 during its launch week.

Deus Ex Go will hit Google Play and the iTunes App Store this summer.

Black Myth: Wukong’s impact is more important than any award
Sun Wukong holds his staff in Black Myth: Wukong.

More than any other game released in 2024, Black Myth: Wukong took the world by storm. The action-adventure title from Game Science, a Chinese developer, annihilated Steam records in August, peaking at over 2.4 million concurrent players. It comfortably sits in second place among its contemporaries, according to SteamDB. Most recently, Game Science reached another milestone by winning Best Action Game and the Player’s Voice voting at The Game Awards.

While Black Myth: Wukong is an adaptation of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, it has an entirely different narrative hook: a continuation of the tale itself, set centuries after the adventures of Tang Sangzang, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing. In it, you play as the Destined One, tasked with finding the six relics left behind by the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, in an effort to revive him.

This new Alien game will tide you over until Alien: Isolation 2
Key art for Alien: Rogue Incursion

It’s hard to believe it has been over a decade since the release of Alien: Isolation. No Alien game since then has matched the intensity of its survival horror focus. Slowly creeping around a space station, only to be ambushed by a Xenomorph and engage in a cat-and-mouse chase in hopes of survival, is an exhilarating experience that no other Alien game has quite been able to achieve. Unfortunately, Sega and Creative Assembly did not immediately start work on a follow-up; it was only this year that we learned a sequel is in the works.

That Alien: Isolation sequel is still years away at this point, but thankfully, a different Alien game is here for players looking for another Xenomorph-filled first-person shooter. It’s a new VR game from Survios called Alien: Rogue Incursion, and it's your best bet for that Alien horror short of replaying the original Alien: Isolation as we wait for its sequel.
