Digimon returns on PS4, Vita with mystery-themed adventure game

An English-language version of the monster-battling RPG Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is slated to launch in North America and Europe next year for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, publisher Bandai Namco announced.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth follows up on last year’s 3D fighting game Digimon All-Star Rumble for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Cyber Sleuth shifts the series back into more familiar territory, returning to its turn-based RPG roots.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth finds players trapped between the real and digital worlds, and the only way to escape back to reality is to enlist the help of hundreds of digital creatures. Cyber Sleuth features over 200 collectible Digimon, which can be upgraded, evolved, and summoned in battle. Digimon started in the 90s as an alternative to Tamagotchi digital pets, taking on qualities of the popular Pokemon as the franchise expanded into other media.

“Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. continues to strive to give players the games they want from our Japanese developers,” said Bandai Namco Entertainment America vice president of marketing Eric Hartness. “Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth has been one of the most requested games with a faithful fan base itching to see new Digimon stories make it to the Americas, we are excited to bring this title to our shores.”

After revealing an upcoming North American release for Cyber Sleuth at Anime Expo 2015, Bandai Namco subsequently confirmed plans for a European version as well.

Launched as a digital pet and competitor to Nintendo’s Pokemon in the late 1990s, Digimon spawned an animated series and a number of related games for the original PlayStation and other platforms. Popular series entries include 2000’s Digimon World, 2001’s Digimon Rumble Arena, and 2003’s Game Boy Advance spinoff Digimon Battle Spirit. Cyber Sleuth is considered a part of the core Digimon World series.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth will launch in retail and digitally for the PlayStation 4 in North America in 2016. The PS Vita version will only be released digitally via the PlayStation Network. Both versions are planned to launch exclusively via the PlayStation Network in Europe.

The best racing games for the PS4
Need-for-Speed-Rivals-screenshot-7

The PlayStation brand of consoles has always had a strong tie to the racing genre. Each console has had a great mix of exclusive and third-party racing titles that looked and played fantastic on the hardware. The PlayStation 4 was the biggest success Sony had since the PS2, but at the same time, seemed to have far fewer pure racing games released on the system. All of Sony's marketing and promotion shifted during this generation to its big first-party exclusives like The Last of Us Part 2, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima, with little to no love being shown to the racing fans.

Even though Sony itself wasn't pushing the genre, the PS4 has some of the best racing games ever developed, ready for you to set a new course record on. The number to choose from is a little overwhelming, but we've culled the pack down to only the fastest, brightest, and, most importantly, most fun racing games the system has to offer. Racing as a genre is broader than some people may think, so we've included a little bit of everything to help you find a game that matches your speed.

The most fun I’ve had with my PS5 has been playing PS4 games
Kratos' silhouette in God of War.

When I got my PlayStation 5, I (along with anyone else who managed to get their hands on the ever-elusive console) was extremely excited. I couldn't wait to get into Sony's latest piece of hardware, try out its exclusive titles, and finally feel the difference a DualSense controller makes. But now, just over two months into owning a PS5, my experience with the pricey machine hasn't lived up to the hype.

Consoles are made by their games, traditionally their exclusive ones. Without a solid library of exclusive titles, there's hardly a reason to buy one console over another. I already have a beefy gaming computer, so any third-party games are usually played on that. But I love Sony's first-party games so much that dropping $500 on a PS5 was worth it to me.

Cyberpunk 2077 was the most purchased PlayStation 4 game in June, according to Sony. That stat comes after the game was added back to the PS Store for the first time since its removal from the marketplace last December.

The data comes from Sony's PlayStation blog, which lists the top-selling games for PS5 and PS4, as well as the top-performing free-to-play games. In the PS4 section, Sony notes that Cyberpunk 2077 was the top-selling game for both the U.S./Canada market, as well as the European market.
