Dragon’s Dogma 2 is in development at Capcom

Summer Gaming Marathon Feature Image
This story is part of our Summer Gaming Marathon series.

During Capcom’s 10th anniversary Dragon’s Dogma livestream, the company revealed a sequel, Dragon’s Dogma 2, which is currently in development.

Capcom launched a 10th-anniversary website last month detailing the history of the series, starting from April 2012 to the Netflix anime series in 2020. Most of this new video is reflecting on the series’ history too, but at the end, Hidetaki Itsuno confirms that a sequel will join the franchise’s history.

10 Years of Dragon's Dogma

“Sorry to have kept you waiting,” Istuno said. “Dragon’s Dogma 2 is currently in development. Everyone in the development team is hard at work creating a game that we hope you will enjoy. Please look forward to it.”

That isn’t much to go on, but it’s a nice treat for Dragon’s Dogma fans who were hoping that something substantial would come out of the 10th-anniversary celebrations. The press release doesn’t reveal much more about the games, including platforms or a release date. It simply just reaffirms that Itsuno, Art Director Daigo Ikeno, and Project Lead Kenichi Suzuki are all working on Dragon’s Dogma 2. However, the game will be utilizing the RE Engine, which Capcom also used for titles like Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil Village.

There was some speculation that a potential sequel would have been revealed during Summer Game Fest, but Capcom waited to show it off until now. Furthermore, during Capcom’s showcase earlier this week, it wasn’t revealed there either. However, it did announce the live stream that would eventually confirm the sequel.

Dragon’s Dogma first launched in May 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It later came to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in April 2017 and Nintendo Switch in 2019 in an enhanced form called Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is without a release date.

I found my new favorite fighting game thanks to Capcom Fighting Collection 2
Fighters face off in Capcom Fighting Collection 2 art.

When I sat down to demo Capcom Fighting Collection 2, I thought I knew exactly what I was in for. During a preview event, I'd get to go hands-on with three games in the upcoming package. I fired up the opening menu and started scrolling through some familiar options, which included Street Fighter game and Capcom vs. SNK games. It was the third option that caught my attention, though.

"Project Justice? What's that?" I thought.

WWE 2K25 brings unexpectedly big changes to the wrestling sim
Roman Reigns stands inside a ring in WWE 2K25.

When I reviewed WWE 2K24 last year, I proclaimed that the series had reached the top of the mountain. The series officially completed its comeback arc thanks to tighter wrestling, tons of great modes, and an enormous roster of superstars. It was a major achievement for 2K Games, but one that left the series facing an existential question: Where do you go next once you’ve reached the top?

I’m starting to get a feel for that answer after playing a few hours of WWE 2K25. In many ways, this year’s simulator looks to maintain the status quo by lightly tweaking existing modes like MyGM while adding subtle tweaks to its core fighting foundation. There’s much more to it than meets the eye though, from its new open-world mode to the introduction of intergender wrestling. While I didn’t get to try every new feature, the bits I did get hands-on with felt improved enough to keep this year’s edition from feeling stale.

Eternal Strands
Eternal Strands - 101 Gameplay Trailer | PS5 Games

You wouldn't guess it from looking at the footage, but Eternal Strands is the first project from a new indie studio that just arrived on Game Pass as a day-one release. You play as a Weaver named Brynn who has the power to manipulate both the environment and temperature to face off against larger-than-life creatures. This game is all about dynamic interactions and emergent gameplay as every element and object behaves as it would in the natural world. Fire will spread, ice will slow enemies, and rocks will shatter as you launch them with your telekinetic powers. Your creativity will be rewarded both in combat and exploration. There's a heavy Shadow of the Colossus vibe with the giant enemies here that you can scale to get a better angle of attack. If you love experimenting with systems in a third-person action RPG with a cool art style, this is the perfect sandbox to play in.
