Ellen Page is not happy that the character Ellie in Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us seems to resemble her, a sentiment that she voiced in her recent Reddit AMA session. “I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond: Two Souls, so it was not appreciated,” Page admitted when another user asked her whether she would have played Ellie in The Last of Us if she had been approached.
Ellie’s resemblance to Page in The Last of Us did not go unnoticed by the wider world. The game debuted before Beyond did, and many assumed it was actually Page playing the character. Ellie’s appearance also changed significantly during development so that, according to Naughty Dog, the character would look more like her actress Ashley Johnson.
Page stars in Quantic Dreams’ Beyond alongside Willem Dafoe. Elsewhere in the Reddit thread she speaks of her co-star and the motion capture process, saying, “[Dafoe and I] did do our own motion capture. The suits are not that bad actually… it is sort of nice to not [w]orry about wardrobe. Willem is an incredible actor and I loved working with him.”
Page answered many of the questions posed to her with tongue-in-cheek sarcasm (for examepl: Q: “What is your favorite kind of juice?” A: “Tequila”), so maybe we shouldn’t put too much stock in the apparent ire she directs at The Last of Us.
