Free Epic Games Store games this week

While most people still go to Steam for the best PC games, the Epic Games Store has become a strong competitor in the space and now hosts all the best current and upcoming PC games. Unlike Steam, however, Epic entices users to invest in its ecosystem by offering a free game or two every week ranging from darling indies to AAA titles. All you have to do is jump on the Epic Games Store to claim the free games and they’ll be added to your library to keep forever. Unlike PlayStation Plus or Game Pass, you don’t have to subscribe to anything to get them; just create a free account and you can claim every free game offered.

Keeping track of all the free titles and gaming deals can be a pain, so we’re monitoring the Epic Games Store for you. We’ll update this article every week when the new games are available!

What’s free on the Epic Games Store right now?

These games can be picked up on the Epic Games store right now for free. Scroll down to the Free Games section of the app’s Discover tab or find the individual title using the search bar. Just find and select the Get button to claim your free game. You do not have to download or install it right away.

Them’s Fightin’ Herds might look like a cute My Little Pony game but is actually a hardcore 2D fighter that just so happens to feature a roster of adorable woodland creatures. The systems here have made it a cult hit among the FGC and has been updated and expanded with a story mode, cross-platform play, and even a cute pixel lobby system. The only downside is that it doesn’t have a very big roster. If you’re a fighting game fan, don’t let the visuals turn you off of this deep game with tons of tech.

Souls fans will be pleased to see that one of the better, though more contained, entries in the genre is on offer. Mortal Shell is a very linear experience compared to the likes if Elden Ring and even Dark Souls, but uses that focus to make a solid combat system with some unique twists. You don’t swap characters, but shells that each have their own abilities and weapons to upgrade. Besides basic attacks and dodges, the Harden ability is a fun take on the parry system. By hardening yourself in stone, you can block any attack at the cost of being frozen in place. Mess up that timing, and you’re eating a hit. You can choose which order you face the four major bosses in, and each will put you to the test.
