Classic hack-and-slash game, Gauntlet, returns for Steam Machines

Arrowhead Games and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment are bringing the classic brand Gauntlet back this summer via Steam. The game will be available for all PC gamers with the Steam client, but it will also offer “full support for SteamOS and the upcoming Steam Machines shipping the second half of this year.”

Gauntlet will also help to usher in WBIE’s “WB Games Vault,” an offering of direct-to-digital games based on WB and Midway titles, as well as original IPs. Although Gauntlet is coming specifically for PC (at least for now), the games offered under this banner will be developed for multiple platforms.

If you were a child of the 80s in America, it would be almost impossible for you not to know about Gauntlet. The arcade hack-and-slash classic brought four players together, spawned several predecessors, and taught us to hate mouthy narrators that liked to taunt players. Since its debut in 1985, the brand has undergone countless re-releases, sequels, reboots, and re-imaginings.

The new version will once again feature four playable characters – Elf, Valkyrie, Warrior, and Wizard – as well as online co-op play. They will maraud their way though dungeons, collecting loot, and vie for restorative food stuffs. The look may have changed over the decades, but the core remains the same.

This Steam Deck accessory just put the nail in my gaming PC’s coffin

After years of putting it off, I recently accepted that my PC is in dire need of an upgrade. A graphics card swap last year slowed its march towards obsolescence, but it was clear that my outdated processor needed a boost to match. The more I researched, the more I realized that wasn’t my only problem. I was looking at a full motherboard swap, potentially setting me back $1000. That was all to maintain what’s become my least favorite way to play games. I’d much rather sit on my couch and use my Steam Deck than play on the same monitor I stare at all day for work.

While I know I’ll have to upgrade eventually, I just found another good excuse to put that off a little longer. Razer just released its own Nintendo Switch-like dock, dubbed the Handheld Dock Chroma, built for devices like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally. It’s a deceptively feature-loaded piece of plastic that has already transformed my gaming habits, putting another nail in my PC’s coffin. That comes at a cost though, both figuratively and literally, which stops this from being the one dock to rule them all.
Design and compatibility
If you’ve used a Nintendo Switch before, you should know exactly what to expect with the Handheld Dock Chroma. You place your device of choice into it, connect it to the dock via USB-C, and voila. Your portable device now outputs up to 60 frames per second at 4K on whatever screen you want, whether it’s a monitor or TV. It’s the kind of accessory that any Steam Deck owner should have.

If there's only a little bit of money left in your Steam Wallet, then you'll want to look at the games on sale at deep discounts right now. Thankfully, tons of fantastic games are available for under $5 during this Steam Winter Sale, and I'm not just talking about Okami or Star Wars: Squadrons. If you haven't played any of the following six titles before, I highly recommend picking them up for cheap before the Steam Winter Sale ends on January 2, 2025.

Titanfall 2's reputation proceeds the game itself at this point. Respawn Entertainment's first-person sci-fi shooter underperformed when it launched in 2016, but has gone on to become one of the most beloved FPS games of all time. Its silky smooth game feel puts its gunplay toe-to-toe with the likes of Call of Duty and Battlefield, although being able to use a grappling hook to traverse and summon a mech to rain terror on enemies still gives its multiplayer matches a unique feel. On top of that, this game features one of the best single-player shooter campaigns ever made, as it's bursting at the seams with innovative ideas and shocking gameplay twists in each and every level. Titanfall 2 normally costs $30, but you can pick up up during the Steam Winter Sale for just $3.
