Grid Legends is EA’s new racing game with a story mode

EA is known as one of the masters of the racing genre when it comes to video games, boasting series like Need for Speed and Burnout. Its newest venture into high-speed roads is Grid Legends, developed by Codemasters.

GRID Legends | Official Reveal Trailer

Grid Legends is setting out to be a new racing game experience unlike any other. The apparent goal of it is to immerse players through its story mode partnered with its lifelike environments and graphics. The story follows a “classic underdog tale” where players will compete in the Grid World series against the successful Raven West team. Besides this, no other story details have been revealed.

The game is throwing actual, developed characters into the mix. Each character will come with their own stories, packed with unique ambitions and backgrounds. EA is bringing in some top-tier acting talent to deliver the best experience possible. One of the confirmed actors is Ncuti Gatwa, who is famous for his role in Netflix’s Sex Education.

The entire game is captured in Extended Reality (XR), according to Codemasters. This technology is used in shows like Disney’s The Mandolorian to create the worlds that the characters explore.

There are also many unveiled modes, such as Boost Mode and Elimination Mode. Along with these come new locations like Moscow and London.

It’s clear that the main goal with Grid Legends is to create the most immersive racing experience on the market. Hopefully, racing game fans find the story addition more impressive than intrusive.

Grid Legends is set to launch sometime in 2022.

Apex Legends sort of reverses its battle pass changes after backlash
A Legend Upgrade ability is used in Apex Legends.

Respawn Entertainment has decided to reverse one of the most controversial changes to its new Apex Legends battle pass system: the ability to buy a premium battle pass only with real-world currency, although it didn't address other issues.

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) and on publisher Electronic Arts' website on Wednesday, the team said they were reinstating the ability to buy the premium battle pass with 950 Apex Coins, which was the price before the announced battle pass updates. Players will also get the chance to unlock a free premium battle pass by completing what it calls "simple" in-game missions during the first half of Season 22.

EA Sports College Football 25 is the best sports game in years
A player holds a football in EA Sports College Football 25.

Although Electronic Arts is one of the kings of the sports video game genre, it does not have the best track record as of late. FC (formerly FIFA) and Madden games are bestsellers every year, but they also have dreadful user reviews on sites like Metacritic. That's due to light, incremental changes year-over-year, a lack of crucial mechanics for sports simulators, and lots of bugs. That rocky reputation made EA's impending return to college football equal parts exciting and scary ahead of its release. Would EA Sports College Football 25 be the grand return of the series after a decade of dormancy or a disastrous return?

Thankfully, I can confirm that EA Sports College Football 25 is the best EA Sports game that I've played in years. It takes the solid core of Madden's football gameplay, but actually builds on that in a couple of key ways. Its presentation feels much more lively and polished than other EA Sports games, and its modes bring a lot of welcome depth and customization options that have been sorely lacking in other EA Sports offerings. While there are still a couple of quirks to be ironed out, this is the first EA Sports game I've felt comfortable recommending at full price in a long time.
Taking the field again
Unlike this year's Top Spin 2K25 (which somehow still felt like a minor improvement over its predecessor despite the decade-long gap between them), College Football 25 feels like a big step up for the college football franchise. It's now running on the Frostbite Engine like Madden and FC do, and because this is a current-gen exclusive, it's one of the best-looking sports games out there. EA upped the production value of the presentation around the game too, with highly detailed stadiums, cheerleaders, mascots, referees, and more.
