Grand Theft Auto V players on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will soon receive a comprehensive set of in-game filmmaking tools as part of a forthcoming title update, publisher Rockstar announced this week.
The Rockstar Editor, previously exclusive to the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V, allows players to create everything from “amazing stunt montages to creative machinima storytelling” via an in-game interface.
The Rockstar Editor’s upcoming console launch will also introduce a set of new features, including an ambient audio and sound effects library, Snapmatic still frame exporting, and improvements to the included Director Mode.
Other planned additions include copyable marker properties and a font library update that triples the amount of available fonts for titles and credits. All featured improvements are slated to hit the PC edition of Grand Theft Auto V in a separate, platform-specific update.
Rockstar recently announced the winning entry in its “Ill Gotten Gains” contest, which challenged players to show off their in-game excesses via a Rockstar Editor film. The publisher notes that upcoming contests will be open to players across all platforms, once the updated Rockstar Editor hits the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The Rockstar Editor is part of a recent string of updates for Grand Theft Auto V and its online multiplayer component GTA Online that add customization-focused features facilitating user-created content. The GTA Online Creator allows players to craft custom scenarios and challenges, and Rockstar frequently highlights fan-made standouts. Players can also create their own GTA Online Jobs, including missions inspired by previous Rockstar games.
Patches don’t always improve the experience, however; users reported a series of issues stemming from a recent title update, resulting in framerate drops. A subsequent update later fixed many reported problems impacting gameplay.
A specific launch date for the Rockstar Editor’s console debut was not announced.
