Helldivers 2 is a ton of fun to play, but the game isn’t without its small list of issues. One of these maladies is an error code that reads “servers at capacity.” If you’ve ever seen this pop-up window, you’ll know just how frustrating it can be to get around. But as far as fixes go, there’s not much one can do when it comes to getting around this roadblock.

Can you fix the servers at capacity error?

Unfortunately, this is one error in Helldivers 2 that you have no power over. This issue falls on the game being just too popular for the game’s servers to keep up with. A statement posted by developer Arrowhead in its official Discord said: “Our team is working around the clock to solve these issues. While we’ve been able to mitigate some of the causes, we are still struggling to keep up with the scaling that is needed to accommodate all our Helldivers. Therefore, we’ve had to cap our concurrent players to around 450,000 to further improve server stability. We will continue to work with our partners to get the ceiling raised.”

Sadly, if you are faced with this message, your only option is to wait for room to open up on the server or wait until Arrowhead is able to raise the number of players it can host.

Next to bottlenecked server traffic, another issue that many Helldivers 2 players have encountered is the game just totally crashing. Any PC gamer can relate to how infuriating this can be, but there’s a few things you can do on your end to improve performance.

First and foremost, you’ll want to make sure your PC is optimized for Helldivers 2. To this end, you’ll want to make sure your graphics drivers are up to date, and the same goes for your OS. It’s also not a bad idea to check to see what background processes may be occurring on your PC without you even knowing. The less going on while you’re playing Helldivers, the better.

Lowering the game’s graphical settings and doing away with mods is another way to get the game running smoother. You’ll also want to make sure you’re up to date on all your developer patches for Helldivers 2.

A black screen to kick things off

Many Helldivers 2 have encountered a strange issue when launching the game. Instead of startup menus, players receive a black screen with no options on it. As it stands, developers are saying the cause of this issue is launching the game in fullscreen mode. Until an official patch arrives, some players have had success with a couple of workarounds.

One option is to stay put on the black screen for several minutes. There’s a chance it may disappear, putting you right on the main menu, where you were supposed to be all along. You can also modify the game to never launch in fullscreen mode.

To do so, you’ll need to edit the “user_settings.config” file. You can find this config element under “C:\Users\User-Name\AppData\Roaming\Arrowhead\Helldivers2.”
