This year, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is really pushing the single-player campaign in its marketing. Set in the early 1990s, this story promises all the twists, turns, betrayals, and mind-blowing reveals the series is known for. But for a majority of players, that’s just an afterthought compared to the competitive multiplayer. After the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct showed off the new movement systems and reworked Prestige progression, players are itching to get their hands on the latest and greatest in multiplayer first-person shooter action. October 25 isn’t that far off, but it’s long enough to make the wait agonizing. Like every year, however, Activision is giving everyone the chance to get some matches in before launch with a beta test. Gaining access is easy, but only if you know how.

The only way to reserve your slot in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta is to preorder a copy of the game on the platform of your choice, be it PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or PC. There are two versions available to preorder via the official Call of Duty site — Standard/Cross-gen and Vault — but it doesn’t matter which one you purchase. Also, if you are a Game Pass subscriber, then you do not need to preorder to join the beta. If you preordered a physical copy, you will get a code that you can redeem at callofduty.com/betaredeem to gain access to the beta when it launches. Digital owners will automatically gain access on their platform.

Black Ops 6’s Zombies Easter egg hunt is taking me back in time
A screenshot from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's zombies mode.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is more than another numbered entry in the popular subseries. It's far more than a well-designed first-person shooter composed of a high-octane single-player campaign, a robust and deeply enjoyable competitive multiplayer suite, and an off-the-wall cooperative horde mode.

It's a time machine.
That was then ...
It's the summer of 2011 and the apartment is sweltering. My mom is hunched over the stove or running up and down the apartment with a mop. A nondescript bachata song is blaring on the stereo installed above the microwave. My brother is locked away in our room, or out with some friends, and my father is away at work. All the while, I'm firmly rooted to my couch, as if time has allowed vines to spring up and fix me to the spot. A Dualshock 3 is in my hand, a poor excuse of a headset sits on my head.

Black Ops 6’s ultimate Prestige awards are here, and they’re kind of bland
Soldiers near a train in Black Ops 6.

In Call of Duty, reaching a prestige rank is the ultimate goal for most players. Black Ops 6 gives players 55 levels to work through before they reach the first Prestige rank but takes things to the next level once that's been achieved. You can Prestige 10 times, at which point you become a Prestige Master ... with 1,000 levels to grind. Unfortunately, the rewards are the end of that grind can best be described as lackluster.

One player posted a screenshot to X depicting their accomplishment. If you're asking how @Beamishhhhhhh managed to reach level 1,000 so quickly, it's because they self-admittedly used a few Zombies exploits to get there. Heads up: We're going to spoil the rewards below this image, so if you don't want to know what you can get, here's your warning to exit stage right.
