What kind of RPG would Dragon Age: The Veilguard be without plenty of loot? After you've picked your class, customized your character, and gotten into the thick of the adventure, you will start accumulating plenty of new armors, weapons, and accessories for your Rook. How powerful your gear is, no matter what type, comes down to two factors: its rarity and its level. The former you have little control over, but upgrading is something you need to do yourself. It takes a surprising amount of time before the option becomes available, and you need to know where to even look to start the process, so we'll give you the blueprints on how to upgrade your gear in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

How to upgrade gear

We will keep this as spoiler-free as possible so won't be detailing exactly what you will be doing before upgrading unlocks. Instead, know that you will reach a location called the Lighthouse early on in the game before leaving to go on a main quest. Once you return as part of the main quest, then you can start to upgrade.

Step 1: After going back to the Lighthouse for the second time, head out through the main entrance to the courtyard.

Step 2: Run straight ahead toward the fountain before the stairs and interact with a new prompt that says Workshop.

Step 3: A list of your current gear will appear on the left. Select the one you want to upgrade and you will be shown the required gold and materials to upgrade it, as well as how much the stats will increase.

Step 4: You can only upgrade weapons based on the rank of the workshop, which you can do by finding or purchasing Mementos out in the world.

Step 5: Enchantments are also available for your gear as well as abilities after you go further into the story. Enchantments don't cost anything to apply, but you can only use each one on one piece of gear or ability at a time.

Upgrading your equipment at the shop will apply a +1, +2, +3, and so on to that specific item. If you want to upgrade its rarity you will need to either find or purchase a duplicate of that item and it will automatically upgrade itself to the next tier.

Also, make sure you check the other tabs here to upgrade your companion's gear as well so they can do their part in combat!

How to upgrade towns to cities in Civilization 7

One of the four Xs in 4X games like Civilization 7 is expand. You will never grow fast enough to compete with the other Leaders if you stick to just your starting capital city. An obvious but essential tip for Civilization 7 is to quickly expand out and found new towns to get more resources. As useful as towns are, you will eventually want to convert some of them into full cities for even greater benefits. The tutorials will tell you this is possible, but leaves out the important detail of exactly how. It won't take long, but will cost you plenty of gold.

Where does Dragon Age go after The Veilguard? We have some theories
A dragon in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Now just over two months after its release, the mood surrounding Dragon Age: The Veilguard has quieted down. Away from the overwhelming vitriol of certain corners of the internet and with the benefit of time, the general consensus seems to be that it's a safe and solid Dragon Age game, albeit a somewhat underwhelming sequel to 2014's Inquisition. Sure, the story is half-baked, and the companions are a far cry from the Morrigans and Iron Bulls of the past, but Veilguard still delivers on almost every front. It might not be the game we hoped for, but it's what we got, and it's more than worthy enough of a playthrough or two.

The Veilguard closes a chapter on the story that began with Dragon Age: Origins back in 2009. With the Evanuris dealt with, Solas either punished or redeemed, and a new sunrise dawning over Thedas, the adventure is a period to a long sentence that spanned three games, several DLCs, and a few novels. Those finishing The Veilguard might now wonder: Where does the franchise go from here?

You can now download Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s character creator for free
A dragon in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

In the early days of gaming, you would take the blocky sprites you were given and you would appreciate them, darn it. These days? Character creators are practically a game in and of themselves (my wife usually spends the first couple of hours of any title making her player). Dragon Age: The Veilguard is no exception to this, but it's character creator is so robust that BioWare has dropped it as a standalone download.

The Veilguard's character creator is already live on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with PC access rolling out throughout the day, according to Dragon Age's post on X. Fans responded to the post with varying levels of excitement, and quite a few requested more character creation slots on consoles.
