Sea of Thieves is a game that really only works with a group of friends. Rare’s live-service pirate simulator is one of the best co-op games available today, allowing you to put together a swashbuckling crew to take to the high seas, raid rival ships, and hunt for treasure. Now that it is available on every system, one would hope it would also be a cross-platform game, but is that the case? Here’s everything you need to know about Sea of Thieves’ cross-platform support.

Rare

Yes, Sea of Thieves supports cross-platform play across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 just like. That includes both the Windows 10 and Steam versions on PC, as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions. In short, if you have a platform that can play Sea of Thieves, it supports crossplay just like you can with Minecraft or Borderlands 3.

How to use Sea of Thieves crossplay

Rare

Crossplay is enabled by default in Sea of Thieves, so if you’re already familiar with inviting friends and setting sail, you don’t need to do anything special. For those unaware, select Adventure from the main menu, choose the ship you want, choose if you want an open or closed crew, and then invite your friends. On PC, press to bring up your friends list, press X on Xbox, and press Triangle on PlayStation.

That’s all you need to do to use Sea of Thieves’ crossplay. If you’re using an open lobby where random players can join, they’ll be able to join regardless of the platform they’re on.

If you want to disable crossplay, follow the same process, but hit the button on the ship selection screen, then scroll down and set your matchmaking preferences. Unfortunately, the option to disable crossplay is only available on Xbox, not on PC. Note that this is just a preference, not a guarantee. If you disable crossplay, Sea of Thieves will attempt to place you in a lobby with players on the same platform as you, but you may play with other platforms if there aren’t enough players available to fill the lobby.

Cross-save and cross-progression

Rare

Sea of Thieves supports cross-save and cross-progression across PC, PS5, and Xbox consoles, including the Steam version. Sea of Thieves requires a Microsoft account, and all your progression is tied to that account. All you need to do, regardless of the platform you’re playing on, is log in and you will pick up exactly where you left off on the previous platform.

Is FragPunk cross-platform
Key art shows Fragpunk characters.

It takes something special for a new hero shooter to stand out from the competition. Games like Apex Legends and Valorant have already established dedicated fanbases that are hard to convert to a new game. FragPunk sets itself apart by letting players use special Shard Cards that completely change the rules of the game in addition to individual heroes. Being free and available on all platforms will certainly get people to check it out, but if it isn't a cross-platform game then it may not be able to hold people's attention if the player base gets too low. Let's draw our Shard Card to see whether or not FragPunk will be cross-platform.
Is FragPunk cross-platform

FragPunk is available for free on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC starting March 6 and will have full crossplay enabled from day one. There will be no barriers for players on consoles or PC to play with and against one another in heated FPS action. Being a 5v5 game with no offline modes, this will give the game the best shot at keeping a healthy pool of players for people to matchmaker with. However, for those who feel PC players have an advantage over console players using a controller, you can disable crossplay if you wish.

Is Split Fiction cross-platform
Zoe and Mio run through a sci-fi world in Split Fiction.

Hazelight Studios has established itself as the team specializing in the best co-op games. A Way Out and It Takes Two don't encourage playing with a friend, but requires it. The upcoming video game Split Fiction is the same story. While we loved those previous games, the one major fault was that they didn't have cross-platform support. That meant that you needed to either be playing in split-screen with your partner by your side or have the game on the same platform as your partner. Will Split Fiction also have that restriction, or will you be able to go on this adventure with a friend no matter where they are playing?
Is Split Fiction cross-platform?

Yes, Split Fiction will be the first Hazelight game that allows for crossplay between all platforms. This means players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S will all be able to play together so long as each person has a free EA Account. If you don't already have one, you can sign up right here.
