The beta testing has begun for Battlefield 4, and fans of the series that meet certain pre-requisites can join today. For everyone else, the beta will begin on PC, PS4, and Xbox 360 October 4.

The launch of the beta was expected, despite some initial confusion on who got access when. In order to join today, you must have pre-ordered the Battlefield 4 PC Digital Deluxe Edition, be a “Battlefield 3 Premium” member, or have purchased and registered a copy of Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition. Then on October 4, the beta opens to everyone.

The beta offers the map “Siege at Shanghai,” which we saw at E3, and in which we witnessed an entire skyscraper be destroyed. It features two game modes: Conquest and domination. Beta players will also get to see the new “Battlepacks,” which offer a random combination of camos, dog tags, and more. These can be earned through experience progression.

The full version of Battlefield 4 will be available on October 29 for PS, PS3, and Xbox 360. It will then be released on PS4 and Xbox One as a launch title for both systems. Those that buy the current gen versions can then upgrade to the next-gen for $10.

The developers posted a statement on the Sims X (formerly Twitter) account Thursday announcing the move, which they hope will "be able to increase both the number of fixes and the frequency with which we ship these batched updates."

EA Motive, the studio behind 2023's excellent Dead Space remake, confirmed that the next Battlefield game is in development and that it will assist with its development. Unfortunately, work on that new game also means that seasonal updates for Battlefield 2042 will cease after the conclusion of Season 7: Turning Point.

These announcements were made across two separate blog posts. The one about EA Motive explains that "a group of developers from Motive are joining the talented teams at Criterion, DICE, and Ripple Effect to continue unlocking the full potential of Battlefield." Dead Space remake creative director Roman Compos-Oriola and executive producer Philippe Ducharme were named as the leaders of this team.

The Sims 4: For Rent expansion pack pits landlords against tenants

The Sims 4: City Living, one of the game's many expansion packs, first introduced livable apartments in 2016. For longtime Sims players, this was a welcome addition to the most recent iteration of the long-running series. But since then, players have asked for far more freedom in both apartment gameplay (i.e., playing a Sims family that lives in an apartment) and building.

The Sims 4: For Rent expansion looks to step up and provide players with some long-requested features that haven’t been available before. In a preview event, lead producer Rebecca Doyle and lead designer Jessica Croft took press members through the expansion pack’s features, and even provided the opportunity to play as a property owner.
