MLB The Show 21, a Sony game, will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch

MLB The Show 21 will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. The news is a surprising development for Microsoft’s subscription platform considering that the game is published by Sony.

Last month, Sony announced that it would release the series on Xbox consoles for the first time ever. The Xbox Game Pass addition now takes that deal even further, showing that Sony is doubling down on the cross-platform launch.

MLB The Show 21 launches on April 20 and will be on Game Pass day one. It will be available on the console version of the service, but not PC. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can play the game using Microsoft’s cloud gaming service as well.

It’s a significant move that’s sure to leave fans with many questions. A Sony published game coming to Game Pass is unprecedented and could indicate that Sony is ready to play ball with other platforms. In the past, the company was notoriously reluctant when it came to cross-play between other platforms, opening it up to developers late in the PS4’s lifespan. The news shows how far the company has come from that point.

The decision may have less to do with Sony and more to do with the MLB. In Microsoft’s announcement post, the company doesn’t namecheck Sony at all when talking about the deal.

“As we said from the beginning, this is an incredible moment for all of us and bringing the franchise to more players and baseball fans is something that we at MLB, MLB Players, Inc., and Xbox are all excited about,” says Microsoft.

MLB The Show 21 is out PlayStation and Xbox on April 20 and will feature cross-play and cross-progression between platforms.

Xbox is finally letting you cloud stream games you own, with some limits
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty's new character. She's in a security uniform leaning against a railing with a fiery cityscape in the background.

Years after Xbox promised that users could stream games they own through the cloud, the company is finally launching that functionality, albeit with some restrictions.

Starting Wednesday, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to use Xbox Cloud Gaming to stream games they already own, even if they're not in the Game Pass catalog. However, they can only stream from a list of 50 supported games right now. You can view the full list on Xbox's website, but it's a good mix of titles, ranging from AAA releases like Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Outlaws, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to recent indies like Animal Well, Fear the Spotlight, and Dredge. This applies to any version of the game you own, like if you have Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.

3 new Xbox Game Pass games to play this weekend (November 15-17)
Spyro in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

November is shaping up to be a quieter month for Xbox Game Pass than October, but some solid titles are still hitting Microsoft's game subscription service. This week, the three recent additions I'm recommending all have one thing in common: You don't play as humans in them. If you want to let out some steam and relax this weekend, become a dragon, goat, or turnip and cause some mayhem in these games.

All Scaled Up Reveal Trailer | Spyro™ Reignited Trilogy | Spyro the Dragon

Following in the footsteps of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and two StarCraft games, Spyro Reignited Trilogy is the latest Activision Blizzard title to finally make its way to Xbox Game Pass. Developed by the now independent Toys for Bob, this is a remake collection of the first three games in the Spyro series: Spyro the Dragon, Sypro 2: Ripto's Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Those were excellent innovative 3D platforms on PS1 and faithfully re-created by Toys for Bob with vibrant new visuals for the Reignited Trilogy. Spyro has yet to get a new current-gen game like Crash Bandicoot, so check this out if you want to show Xbox and Activision that there's demand for more.
