Last week Tom Clancy’s The Division, Ubisoft’s next-gen “mid-apocalypse” title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, became one of the most talked about titles at E3, but some potential fans aren’t happy with the company’s choice of platforms. A petition asking Ubisoft to release the game on PC as well reached almost 60,000 signatures by Monday morning, and it looks like the petition will soon achieve its 75,000 signature goal.
“Tom Clancy’s The Division should be released for PC for many reasons but the most important one is that the release of this amazing game will only be for consoles,” the petition reads. “This leaves out the PC community. This leaves out those of us who can only play on PC for whatever reason or are best on PC, whatever the case maybe [sic].”
The Division is a third person shooter/RPG hybrid with MMO roots that appears to take full advantage of the next-gen consoles’ powers. It also makes extensive use of an impressive companion app for tablets that allows additional players to enter the game and support their friends from flying drones. It’s currently scheduled for a 2014 release on Xbox One and PS4.
We reached out to Ubisoft to find out whether it has considered releasing The Division on PC. We’ll update this article when we hear back. It’s important to remember that while 75,000 may seem like a lot of people, when it comes to video game sales that’s a pittance. That’s not to say that the game wouldn’t sell well on PC, but the petition organizer’s update that reads “Ubisoft can’t ignore us now!” is not necessarily accurate.
