We might have accidentally gotten our first look at the Switch 2

The announcement of the much-anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch still hasn’t happened, despite fans’ best efforts to eke out even the slightest nugget of information. Now, we might have gotten our first — admittedly blurry — look at the console thanks to a quickly deleted video from peripheral manufacturer Satisfye.

The news broke on X when @1DaP_PaD1 (DP19) shared a post saying the company uploaded a trailer for a peripheral called the Zengrip 2, only to rapidly take it down once it realized its mistake. The trailer in question has been deleted, but screen captures give an idea of what Nintendo’s next console might look like. It looks shockingly similar to a normal Nintendo Switch.

Some eagle-eyed fans say they see an “extra button” on the Joy-Cons that lines up with previous leaks, but the image is so blurry that firm details are impossible to make out. With Nintendo keeping mum on any details about its upcoming console, it’s impossible to say anything definitive about the device’s appearance. Even this image is supposedly taken with a third-party accessory on it, so details are obscured.

Satisfye’s website lists the ZenGrip 2 and says to “anticipate shipping in spring 2025.” Of course, that doesn’t mean the Nintendo Switch 2 will be out by then — but we do know the console should, in theory, be announced by the end of Nintendo’s current fiscal year, which is at the end of March 2025. Nintendo has always been tight-lipped when it comes to hardware, but the excitement around the Nintendo Switch 2 is building, and fans want more details.

The Nintendo Switch 2 could sell 15 million consoles its first year, analysts say

Industry analysts have great expectations for the next Nintendo console, predicting it will sell as many as 15 million units its first year. The Nintendo Switch 2 saw its first official teaser today, although a full Nintendo Direct won't happen until April. The company hopes to outsell the original Switch, but given that it has sold 147 million units since 2017 — with a large boost of sales during the lockdown — that's going to be tough to do.

But it's possible, especially with an existing base of at least 105 million users, according to analyst George Jijiashvili. He says the most important factor in the success of the Switch 2 is the transition period. "However, the biggest challenge will be managing the transition effectively — convincing users to upgrade to the Switch 2 while ensuring those sticking with the original Switch remain supported and engaged," he told us.

The speculation can finally end. The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially revealed this morning, confirming weeks of rumors. Those leaks wound up being accurate, as the system's design and features seem to match what we saw at CES 2025. Case closed ... right?

Not so fast. While we did get our first glimpse at the handheld today, actual details on it are sparse. Sure, we saw its new Joy-cons, redesigned kickstand, mouse-like features, and more. We even got a brief glimpse at Mario Kart 9. But Nintendo didn't share much in the way of hard details, saving that information for a bigger showcase on April 2. Mario Kart 8 has easily earned its spot as one of the best Switch games ever made despite being a WiiU port. Even though it wasn't brand new, it was the perfect game to reveal the Switch with, but we've had plenty of time to master all the tracks over the years. Nintendo decided to recreate that moment when revealing the Switch 2 by showing off a new entry in the kart racing franchise. While the game wasn't technically named Mario Kart 9, there's a good chance Nintendo will stick to its naming formula for this entry. Fasten your seatbelts because we're going activate Star Power and blast through all the information we know so far about Mario Kart 9.
Release window

There is no release date for Mario Kart 9, but considering it was shown off with the Switch 2 reveal, it is almost guaranteed that it will be a lunch game. Sadly, we don't know the Switch 2 release date yet, either, except that it will be in 2025. We should know more after the next Nintendo Direct in April.
Platforms
Technically Mario Kart 9 could be a cross-platform game, but the only system we know for sure it will run on is the Switch 2. We would guess it would be a Switch 2 exclusive, but will update you once we get confirmation either way.
