One of the best Lego games ever kicks off PS Plus’ 2024 additions

The January 2024 lineup of new titles coming to PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra’s Game Catalog was just revealed. It’s a muted month for the service, with the loss of titles like It Takes Two being more noteworthy than the gains. The highest-profile game coming is the Resident Evil 2 remake, which is being added to Xbox Game Pass on January 16. Still, there is one dark horse addition that I’d highly recommend: Lego City Undercover.

Initially released for Wii U in 2013 by TT Fusion and WB Games and remastered for PS4 and other platforms in 2017, Lego City Undercover is a charming open-world game based on the official Lego City playsets. I have fond memories of playing this game on Wii U, as it’s a surprisingly focused yet robust open-world experience, essentially being a kid-friendly take on Grand Theft Auto that puts players in control of a cop instead of a criminal. Although it’s primarily aimed at kids, older players will get a kick out of all the references to TV shows and movies like The Shawshank Redemption.

If your kid has been hooked on Lego Fortnite and is looking for more games to play, this is a potentially compelling alternative to play with them. If you just want to know what’s coming to the PS Plus Game Catalog on January 16, here’s the full list of titles:

Of course, several titles will also leave the service on January 16. The removal that stings the most is It Takes Two, a fantastic co-op platformer that won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021. This is the full list of games leaving the PS Plus Game Catalog next week:

Dying Light 2

Techland's Dying Light titles are some of the best zombie video games out there. They not only feature some extremely satisfying and brutal combat, but they also have fun open worlds to explore thanks to an intricate parkour system. Dying Light 2: Stay Human goes bigger, giving players more gameplay options, like a paraglider for traversal and the power to change the world and story with certain choices. While we're nearly a month past Halloween at this point, this zombie game is still well worth your time.

This week, we finally got a massive batch of new games added to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalogs. It's a fantastic bunch of titles, thanks to the inclusion of some AAA heavy hitters like Grand Theft Auto V, as well as great retro classics, and even some standout indies. As there's a wealth of games to choose from, you might be having some trouble deciding which ones to check out first. Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V needs little introduction, as it's one of the most iconic and bestselling video games ever. If you haven't played it before, know that this is one of the most entertaining open-world games ever made, with a strong main story about three men drawn back into a life of crime. On top of that, there's its nearly infinite online mode. Whether you're concerned with actually completing missions or just want to drive around and mess with the citizens of Los Santos, GTA V offers some of the most fun sandbox gaming available. Grand Theft Auto VI is poised to release sometime in 2025, so now is the perfect time to revisit the last GTA title to better understand the high bar GTA 6 and every other future release from Rockstar Games will need to live up to.

A new batch of games will be added to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalogs next week, but many notable games will also leave Sony's gaming subscription service before that happens. Fans of Rockstar Games in particular will be disappointed as two of the studio's games are leaving PS Plus Extra's catalog ahead of 2025, which will potentially see the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar's most recent game as of 2024, Red Dead Redemption 2, is an excellent open-world western. A prequel to the original Red Dead Redemption, it follows Arthur Morgan, who's part of Dutch van der Linde's gang alongside John Marston, as the sun sets on the Wild West and their gang slowly falls apart due to infighting, death, and questionable decisions from leaders like Dutch. It's an amazing story emboldened by a vast open world with a stunning amount of attention to even the smallest details. It's worth a revisit if you need to remind yourself why Rockstar is considered one of the best developers in the game industry and why you should truly be excited for GTA 6. If you don't own it, you don't have much time left to get that refresher for free.
