PS Plus bolsters its lineup with Deathloop, Sly Cooper, and more

Sony has revealed its PlayStation Plus offerings for September, and it’s looking to be quite a haul for subscribers, with substantial new additions across every tier of the service. Revealed via the PlayStation Blog, the company has shared that next month will see huge hitters like Deathloop, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and Need for Speed Heat join the catalog – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The most notable release to come via September’s Extra tier is no doubt Deathloop. Arkane Lyon’s immensely popular time-looping shooter was one of 2021’s best-reviewed games, so it should incentivize some subscribers to upgrade to the second tier of the service. The arrival of Assassin’s Creed Origins, Watch Dogs 2, and Rayman Legends also show that Ubisoft is following through with its goal to bring plenty more of its expansive catalog to PS Plus.

Elsewhere, the Premium tier is receiving a host of new classics, including Syphon Filter 2 and all four entries in the beloved Sly Cooper franchise.

Need for Speed Heat leads the Essential tier, PS Plus’ entry-level subscription. Though it should make for a fun time for racing enthusiasts, it may not be the standout entry in September’s freebies if TOEM has anything to say about it. Last year’s hand-drawn photography-focused adventure impresses with its unique visuals and adorable gameplay. Also joining the Essential tier is Granblue Fantasy: Versus, a fighting game set in the popular anime universe.

Here’s the full list of everything coming to PS Plus in September.

3 outstanding PS Plus games to play this weekend (June 14-16)

The most announcement-filled week of gaming has wrapped up. From Summer Game Fest to the Xbox Games Showcase and Ubisoft Forward, there was a ton of big gaming news. Many of the games revealed are coming to PlayStation 5, too. On top of that, Sony's Days of Play initiative is still in full swing, which means some more PS2 games finally got PS4 and PS5 ports for the first time in several years. As a result, there's no shortage of relevant games in the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra catalog to check out if you're looking for something to play this weekend.

Three titles stand out to me in particular. The first is the game that cemented the status of a pillar franchise for PlayStation and is getting reinterpreted as a Lego game for kids later this year. Next, there's a Dragon Ball game that looks even better than the manga and anime it's based on and is a nice companion piece to a Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, which launches later this year. Finally, I'm recommending the PS2 classic that put Sucker Punch Productions on the map.

3 Days of Play PS Plus games to try this weekend (June 7-9)

June 2024 is shaping up to be a pretty great month for PlayStation players. Not only are we coming off an entertaining State of Play showcase, but a new Days of Play initiative surrounding all the video game showcases this month is bringing a lot of new PS Plus additions with it. Many of those games hit PS Plus this week, and three in particular stand out to us.

For owners of Sony's oft-neglected PlayStation VR2, the first game is one of its rare exclusives that take full advantage of the headset's eye-tracking by seeing how often players blink. The next is a new PS Plus Essential game that's a revival of Sega's classic beat-'em-up series for the modern gaming era. Finally, the last title is an atmospheric and eerie fishing game that should entice fans of Lovecraftian horror.

When Sony took the stage at CES 2023, PlayStation fans didn’t know what to expect. The company had a history of using the tech expo to showcase new gaming hardware, like the PlayStation VR2, but its plans for the show aren’t ones that tend to leak beforehand. Left in the dark, eager PlayStation fans tuned in to the CES live broadcast to see what the future of PlayStation might hold.

But nobody expected a UFO to touch down on stage.
