PS4 players can prioritize what sections of a game to download first

Sony PS4 PRess ConferencePlayStation 4 players can prioritize the order in which game downloads are completed so that certain parts arrive first, Sony revealed. This means that games with multiple modes will be broken up, allowing the downloader to prioritize what they want to play first. In the video below a user tells the console to download the multiplayer portion of Killzone: Shadow Fall first so he can play with a friend without having to wait for the single player campaign to download as well.

Sony announced previously that all PS4 games are playable almost as soon as they begin downloading. That may be true in theory, but it isn’t entirely clear how this feature will work with games that feature integration on multiple levels. For example, games like Bungie’s Destiny and Ubisoft’s The Division feature integrated single player and multiplayer modes. It’s unclear where the system would draw the line for titles like these.

So, with the news that the game modes are bundled separately, how long until the old argument from multiplayer addicts who’d like to pay half the price and skip game campaigns altogether makes its way back to the forefront?

3 new PS Plus games to check out this weekend (October 25-27)
Key art for Dino Crisis.

Halloween is next week, so you should get in the mood for it by playing some spooky games. Thankfully, several horror titles came to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog this month. From horror classics for the PS1 and PS2 to newer games with more modern storytelling and choose-your-own-adventure sensibilities, PS Plus subscribers will have a lot to choose from when they're looking for something to play this weekend. These are three newer highlights that fit that bill.
Dino Crisis
State of Play | September 24, 2024 [ENGLISH]

While Resident Evil is Capcom's flagship survival horror game series, it's not the only one they've ever had. There was also Dino Crisis, a horror game that swaps out the zombies for dinosaurs. While this series ended after three games and faded into obscurity, Capcom is finally acknowledging it again with a PS Plus re-release of the first game. I'm happy it did this, as the game is worth revisiting in 2024. If you can get used to its dated tank controls and menu design, you have a really solid and surprisingly cinematic retro horror game that deserves more love than it gets. If you've never tried Dino Crisis before, this Halloween gives you the perfect opportunity to do so. Dino Crisis is available on PS4 and PS5 as part of the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog.

I took the PS5 Pro for a first test drive. Now I’m a believer
A PS5 Pro that's floating in front of a gray background. It's turned to the side.

At Tokyo Game Show 2024, hundreds of thousands of people gathered to get their eyes and hands on the latest and greatest in interactive entertainment. Digital Trends was there checking out the hottest titles, including Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, and The First Berzerker: Khazan (starring industry darling and class clown Ben Starr).

The largest presence at the event may have been Sony, and it was at its booth that I went hands-on with its newest hardware, the PlayStation 5 Pro, for the first time. I put the console through its paces and came away intrigued after seeing the stellar image quality and smooth action for myself. While it may be pricey, this upgrade may be what finally unlocks the graphical promises of this generation.

All cross-platform games (PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
Two squads of heroes clash in an Overwatch 2 trailer.

Cross-platform support is becoming more important in the world of video games. Multiplayer hits like Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Fortnite have pushed crossplay into the limelight, and now most AAA multiplayer games release with at least partial cross-platform support. Finding every cross-platform game is no easy feat, though, so we did the hard work to bring you a comprehensive list of games that support crossplay.

Unfortunately, there aren't any rules when it comes to crossplay, so each game handles the feature a little differently. To make matters more confusing, certain backward-compatible games on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X still support crossplay on the most recent hardware, even if there isn't an official release for that hardware.
