Red Dead Redemption on Switch is already discounted in holiday sale

Nintendo is running a Switch sale for the holiday season — and it’s full of discounts. Chief among those is a 30% price cut on the recently released Red Dead Redemption port for Switch, alongside deals on new releases like Sonic Superstars.

Nintendo’s annual holiday eShop sale features discounts on over 30 games. While new Nintendo games like Pikmin 4 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder aren’t included, a lot of classic third-party games are available for a bargain.

Red Dead Redemption headlines the sale, as its currently 30% off. If you’ve never played Rockstar’s classic Western, $35 is a fairly good price for it despite its age. In a similar vein, players can grab the entire Batman: Arkham Trilogy for just $42 or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for $30.

Only a slim selection of new releases are included in the sale, but there are some strong deals if you want to grab some last-minute 2023 games you missed. Sonic Superstars is $42 and Cocoon is down to $20. This year’s great Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection also gets a big 50% price cut, taking it down to $30.

If you’re just looking to fill your backlog with some recent hits, the sale provides a lot of great options. Digital Trends’ 2021 Game of the Year, Metroid Dread, is down to $42 currently, while Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is only $14. I’d personally recommend Citizen Sleeper, a sci-fi critical darling that’s just $10 right now.

Whether you have some specific games you’re looking to grab or you just want to window shop, make sure to check out the sale before it ends on January 3, 2024.

Pick up these 7 great Switch games before Nintendo’s big eShop sale ends
Lego rey fighting kylo.

Steam isn't the only platform holding a big summer sale. Nintendo Switch users can currently get a whole bunch of games up to 50% off on the eShop from now through July 6 in a "Big Ol' Super Sale." While gaming sales are a dime a dozen, a Nintendo sale is especially significant. The company is usually stingy when it comes to discounting its exclusives, so events like this are rare.

The list of discounted games isn't one to ignore. While it doesn't include any recent releases, like Mario Strikers: Battle League, it's a great way to get some of 2021's best console exclusives at half price. Here are the games you should grab before the sale ends. Get them this week and you can take them on your Fourth of July vacation.

Nintendo Switch lifetime sales beat PlayStation 4

The Nintendo Switch's versatility has made it the bestselling console for the last five years. It has sold so well, in fact, that it has surpassed the lifetime sales of the PS4, according to The NPD Group.

Mat Piscatella, executive director and gaming industry advisor for The NPD Group, tweeted the sales figures for the Switch on Friday. He points out that the Switch is now the fourth highest unit selling console in U.S, and the sixth highest selling console overall, coming behind just three other bestselling consoles of all time, the PS2, Xbox 360, and Wii, Nintendo's legacy console. He also said that the Switch sold more units than any other console last month and outpaced Xbox Series X/S year-to-date.

As a console that can be taken with you on the go, it makes sense that players have been asking Nintendo to bring Game Boy Advance games to the Switch for so long. Thanks to a new slew of rumors (along with the launch of Nintendo's Expansion Pack online service), that fervor has ramped up once again. This time around, the rumor comes from Twitter user trashbandatcoot, who shared screenshots of a leaked, supposed Game Boy Advance emulator for the Nintendo Switch.

The screenshots show a long list of games, including Mario Bros. and Pokemon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire. Another series of screenshots shows the emulator actually running games, including entries from the F-Zero and Super Mario franchises. Of course, these screenshots aren't solid evidence without a source, much less confirmation from Nintendo that Game Boy Advance games are coming to the Switch. However, the company recently began selling a new version of Nintendo Switch Online that lets players access a library of Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games. It doesn't take a massive leap of faith to believe that the company can do the same with Game Boy or Game Boy Advance games.
