Rise of the Incarnates brings free-to-play god-on-god action to the PC later this year

A new free-to-play fighting game from the recently renamed Bandai Namco is on the way, titled Rise of the Incarnates. The third person, 2v2 brawler introduces a cast of characters known as “Incarnates,” humans that command the power of gods, and it will be available to play later this year.

The fights all take place in an arena-like environment, and feature ranged, melee, and special attacks unique to each character, while players can dash and jump across the area as they chip away at their opponents’ health. So far only four characters have been revealed, but they range the gamut in abilities and origins, and give us a hint at the game’s tone. The first character is a former doctor that has taken on the persona of the Grim Reaper, complete with the ability to summon zombies. Next is Ares, a human that can transform into the god of war. Lilith is another human capable of transforming into an incarnation of the  mother of all demons. Finally, Mephistopheles is a human capable of becoming a destructive demon.

The game is all about combat, but the developers have created a deep and rich lore to go along with it. A comic book is on the way that will expand upon the universe seen in the game and fill in some of the gaps, and the first issue is available now for free online, with more issues on the way.

The game is currently accepting sign-ups for the alpha, and participants will be notified when it opens. No release date has been issued yet, but Rise of the Incarnates will be out later this year.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R is a great fighter, if you don’t play online

In an age where all fighting games are getting stronger netcode with rollback updates, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle had the potential to make an impact with an all-new updated port featuring new characters and mechanics. The original version that was released for the PlayStation 3 was plagued by a 30 frames per second (fps) frame rate and terrible online play. A new release has the potential to fix all those issues and give the game a second life.

Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is the comfort game I needed this year
Screenshot from Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series of Klonoa flying through a sun-setting sky.

Klonoa is not a new series by any means. It made its debut the year I was born back in 1997 and returned in 2001 with Klonoa 2, a game I'm more than familiar with. Many fans, like myself, have made a special place in their hearts for this often underlooked platformer series. But in a year like 2022 (one that hasn't been too cheery), remake collection Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is a title that isn't just for fans.
