After a decade without an entry in one of the best horror game franchises of all time, Silent Hill has been on the rise. While the remake was an excellent recreation of the PS2 classic, fans have been more curious about the new upcoming video game, Silent Hill f. Revealed alongside a slate of other projects, this new title will have stiff competition against the likes of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic and Directive 8020 to reclaim its crown as the king of horror. Turn on your radios and flashlights because we’re heading deep into the fog to gather all the information there is about Silent Hill f.
This is just one of the upcoming PS5 games, upcoming Xbox Series X games, and upcoming PC games we have on our radar, so make sure to see what other games you should be excited for.
Release speculation
Alas, Silent Hill f was announced in 2022 without a release date or window, and even the second showing in 2025 failed to give us a window. Based on that, the earliest we would expect to see Silent Hill f is 2026.
Platforms
Silent Hill f will be arriving on all modern platforms. That includes the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While it won’t come to the Switch, it is possible that it will eventually get a Switch 2 port.
Trailers
The teaser trailer for Silent Hill f is very much a tone piece but does give some very important information in what it shows.
The first shots establish the setting of Japan, which is a first for the series. While never explicitly placed, Silent Hill has always been a northeastern town in the U.S., so this will be quite a departure from the usual setting.
After the setting is established, we see a girl in a school uniform standing beside a broken shrine — or perhaps a grave marker — that is overgrowing with strange red flowers. She begins walking through town in a daze, dragging a pipe behind her. Red roots or vines begin crawling up and covering the buildings. When we cut back to the girl, she appears injured, and the red vines start reaching out at her from the walls. She breaks free of their grip and runs into the darkness.
The next shots are incredibly uncomfortable. The girl, trapped, begins sprouting the same red vines out of holes in her skin. They grow and bloom into flowers, covering everything but the lower half of her face … until her face itself falls off.
If you managed to watch that and are still interested, a couple more bits of information came out of the showcase. The first is that Silent Hill f will take place in 1960s Japan and be written by Ryukishi07. This is the writer of many acclaimed visual horror novels such as Higurashi When They Cry, Umineko When They Cry, and Ciconia When They Cry. For those unfamiliar, the When They Cry games, especially the first, are well-loved for their horror and mystery elements involving school-aged children.
The only other thing to note is the developer Neobards. This studio is based in Taiwan and is mainly known for developing Resident Evil: ReVerse and Resident Evil Resistance.
Three years later, in March 2025, Silent Hill f finally reemerged from the fog with the official reveal trailer. This one also only featured cinematics and no gameplay, but it was much richer with story details.
We are introduced to our protagonist, Shimizu Hinako, who appears to be shifting between reality and the foggy, nightmarish version of her Japanese town Ebisugoaka. There are hints of some drama between her and her friends before she is beset by a distorted monster and encroaching red flora.
Various environments shown are the town, outskirts, temples, and homes.
The official tagline for Silent Hill f is “Find the beauty in the terror in this psychological horror.” It goes on to elaborate that Hinako’s inner struggle revolves around peer pressure and expectations from her peers, family, and society as a whole.
Gameplay
No gameplay was shown, but the second trailer did at least show Hinako wielding a pipe. That’s a classic Silent Hill weapon, but that’s the only one we can confirm right now.
While expected, the official site does state that Hinako will need to solve puzzles to survive so expect plenty of the disturbing and tricky puzzles the series is known for.
Preorder
Sorry, but you can’t pre-order Silent Hill f yet since it still lacks a release window. However, you can wishlist it now and keep checking back with this page as new information becomes available.
