SOCOM 4 DLC reintroduces Demolition in DLC, more content on the way

Consider this a blast from the past, SOCOM fans (no pun intended). Zipper Interactive and Sony have released a new DLC today that reintroduces one of the most popular game modes form the series’ long history: Demolition.

The “Demolition Pack,” which is available today via PSN, will include the demolition game mode, as well as six new characters, two weapons, and four new maps. The new maps are:

  • “Departure” – Navigate trains and tunnels in this subway station as you hunt down the enemy.
  • “Overflow” – Both distanced and close-quarters combat take place around a massive dam.
  • “Bitter Jungle” – Get out of the city and into the jungle in this classic SOCOM environment.
  • “Ruins” – Do battle in this classic SOCOM map’s ancient ruins.

The new weapons are:

  • HS-C3 – Low rate of fire but above average damage and very high accuracy.
  • 552 – Average damage and firing rate, but very accurate when standing still.

And the new characters will be:

  • Specter
  • Jester
  • Bastion
  • Ahmed
  • Dimitri
  • Steiner

And of course, the Demolition Pack will feature a return of the game mode “demolition,” a staple of earlier SOCOM titles. The demolition mode will feature a single bomb placed in the map that both teams will vie for. Once one team has the bomb, they will attempt to plant it on the opposing base and wait for the explosion.

The Demolition DLC will cost gamers $9.99 if you already own the game. For those that purchase SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs new beginning today, they will receive the demolition pack at no cost, as well as the “SOCOM Pro DLC,” which features “Pro” custom online matches, as well as two additional weapons, the M16A4 and the AK-47.

Then on November 1, Zipper will introduce the “Evac Co-op Pack,” for $7.99. That DLC will introduce the Evac co-op mode, as well as one new map, two new weapons and six new character skins.

The Evac mode will pit you and your allies in a hostile territory, fighting your way to your evac vehicle. The weapons include in the DLC will be:

  • AM50 – It doesn’t carry many rounds and it’s slow to fire, but the AM50 will kill with a single shot anywhere on an opponent’s body.
  • M82A1A – A very low firing rate and lower than average ammo capacity is offset by the M82A1A’s ability to take down an opponent with a single round.

And the new character skins are:

  • Hunter
  • Python
  • Mystic
  • Jalil
  • Nasir
  • Renzo

SOCOM 4 continues to pick up steam after a rocky release that was hampered by the PSN Outages. The game was running at full capacity for less than a week when the PlayStation Network went down and stayed down. The following month without an online mode crippled SOCOM 4, which many consider to be an online-first game. Now with the PSN back up and running, fans seem to be taking notice and giving the title the love it deserves.

Winterfest 2024 key art in Fortnite

Fortnite's much-awaited holiday update has finally arrived as Winterfest 2024 kicked off with a mini live event on the Chapter 6 Season 1 Battle Royale map. The event consisted of popular singer Mariah Carey breaking through ice and spreading Christmas cheer on the island with her signature song All I Want For Christmas Is You.

After the live event was concluded, the singer became an NPC that can now be found on the island and grants free presents to players when they emote with her to the Christmas track. Epic has also returned the Yule Log Cabin (also known as Winterfest Cabin) and players can claim some free cosmetic rewards by opening gifts.

New Elder Scrolls mod adds more than 160 new quests to Morrowind
A screenshot from the Abecean Shores Morrowind mod.

The Elder Scrolls VI isn't coming anytime soon, despite how badly we all want it. Even Avowed -- the next closest thing to an Elder Scrolls game we're likely to see -- isn't out until mid-February. If you need something to tide you over, a new mod for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind adds a huge amount of content to the game that makes it worth firing up this 22-year-old gem.

Abecean Shores, a section of the much-larger and still unfinished Project Cyrodiil, is now available. If you recognize the name, then you'll probably be able to guess the setting: the shores of Cyrodiil, the Imperial homeland and the setting for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The mod creators have added a truly ridiculous amount of content into Morrowind, including more than 160 new quests, according to PCGamesN.

EA turned down a Dead Space 4 pitch from the series’ creators
dead space interview gunner wright issac clarke flying through machinery in remake

After last year's excellent Dead Space remake, fans had hopes that EA would bring back the classic, sci-fi-inspired horror franchise for a new release. When Dead Space 2 didn't see a remake, word came out that EA had pumped the brakes on the series for the moment. Now, an interview with series co-creator Glen Schofield confirms the news we've all feared: Dead Space has likely gone the way of the dodo.

In an interview with Dan Allen Gaming, three Dead Space devs told the story of a Dead Space 4 pitch they had made to EA. The company turned it down. While disappointed, the devs seemed to take it in stride. "The industry is in a weird place right now, and people are hesitant to take chances on things," Christopher Stone said. "Take it with a grain of salt. Who knows? Maybe one day. I think we'd all love to do it."
