Star Wars: Squadrons is the biggest name in the bunch. It’s a multiplayer dogfighting game that puts players in control of X-wings and TIE fighters. The game features a full-fledged single-player story mode that takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi. It allows players to participate in missions as part of the New Republic and the Empire, offering both perspectives as the two factions battle it out. Star Wars: Squadrons features a competitive multiplayer mode as well, and is even fully playable in PSVR.

June 2021’s PS Plus lineup also includes Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown for PS4. This was previously announced as a PS4 exclusive and serves as a remaster of Virtua Fighter V, which originally launched in 2006. This remaster offers improved visuals and is overseen by Yakuza and Judgment developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. It will include an all-new online mode, as well as an improved UI.

Finally, PS Plus users get Operation: Tango, a “cooperative spy adventure” where players complete missions online with friends. The game will launch the same day it comes to PS Plus. It leans into effective communication between both team members, who play as either an Agent or a Hacker. Operation: Tango requires players to have a working microphone to participate. Only the PS5 version is available via PS Plus, despite the game also launching on PS4.

PS5 overheating: common problems and how to fix
Playstation 5 with controller in the foreground,

The PS5 overheating problem has once again become a hot topic amid the release of CPU-hungry games like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Gamers have been here before. Four years ago, when Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghosts of Tsushima released, comment threads were full of cynical gamers questioning what next-gen truly means after their consoles had randomly shut down mid-gameplay. Plenty of the best PS5 games have been met with similar feedback over the years.

Fortunately, overheating doesn’t rank among the most common problems with the PS5, but gamers should know what to do to prevent it, especially with such graphically impressive upcoming PS5 games slated for next year and beyond. First, though, you need a proper diagnosis.

Key art for Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut.

While 2025 has just begun, we already know about some of the biggest games coming to the PlayStation 5 this year. Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Grand Theft Auto VI, in particular, stand out as potential defining PS5 releases for 2025 right now. Luckily for those of us who subscribed to PlayStation Plus Extra, the predecessors to all three of those games are available to play as part of the Sony game subscription service's catalog. As such, those games make up my list of recommendations for new PS Plus Extra games to play to kick off the new year.

Sucker Punch Productions will release Ghost of Yotei later this year, giving us yet another open-world action-adventure game set in Japan. While it isn't a direct sequel, I still think it's a good idea to check out Ghost of Tsushima before playing Ghost of Yotei. Sucker Punch Productions' last game instantly cemented Ghost as a new hallmark series for Sony; the enhanced Director's Cut version of the game is still one of the best-looking titles that you can play on PS5. And while I'm not quite as fond of the story and gameplay compared to other games, if you enjoy games like Assassin's Creed Mirage or Red Dead Redemption 2, then Ghost of Tsushima's realistic open world will really immerse you. After playing Ghost of Tsushima, you'll have a better understanding of the foundation that Ghost of Yotei will be building on and will more clearly see how it evolves and improves upon that formula.
