Ubisoft’s mobile titles are getting even more delays. In its Q1 financial report released Thursday, the company announced that Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence have been delayed out of fiscal year 2025, meaning they’re now set for at least later next year. The company says this is to “ensure that these experiences deliver on expectations with optimized KPIs in the context of a demanding yet very large market.”

Both mobile titles, which Ubisoft says are full versions of their respective games but built from the ground up for touchscreens, have been delayed multiple times. Rainbow Six Mobile was announced in 2022, and was expected to release later that year after a closed beta. The year came and went. The team updated players in March that it would be pausing the open beta soft launch rollout to “focus our efforts on enhancing key elements based on community feedback.”

The Division Resurgence development has been similar. It was announced in 2022, and a trailer that debuted during Ubisoft Forward 2023 had a fall 2023 release window. However, the free-to-play mobile game first delayed phase two of its regional beta in August 2023, but after a successful test period in November, announced in a blog that it would be coming later in 2024.

Overall, Ubisoft’s lineup is still in a good place despite the delays. The financial report reiterated that the company has a “strategic focus” on two verticals: open-world adventures like Assassin’s Creed and the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws, and games-as-a-service (GaaS) titles. Ubisoft is specifically putting a lot of resources into XDefiant, the hit multiplayer shooter XDefiant. In May, it canceled development of The Division Heartland to move to “bigger opportunities” like XDefiant and the Rainbow Six series. Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws will both release this year.

Ubisoft also continues to invest in The Crew Motorfest and open-world pirate game Skull and Bones, which just released its second season. Rome simulation Anno 117: Pax Romana is also still set for next year.

Ubisoft and more offer ways to play purchased Google Stadia games elsewhere
The protagonist of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla shouting in battle and wielding two axes.

Google recently announced that it plans to shutter its cloud gaming service Stadia in early 2023, leaving players who used it as one of their primary platforms in an awkward situation. Google already promised to refund people for their Google Stadia hardware and software purchases, but people are still losing access to games they enjoyed and save files they possibly dumped hours into. Thankfully, some developers are working on ways to help Stadia players.
The most notable studio to help Stadia players is Ubisoft, which was Google's earliest partner for the technology via an Assassin's Creed Odyssey demo. "While Stadia will shut down on January 18, 2023, we're happy to share that we're working to bring the games you own on Stadia to PC through Ubisoft Connect," Ubisoft tweeted. "We'll have more to share regarding specific details, as well as the impact for Ubisoft+ subscribers, at a later date." Thankfully, the Stadia versions of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and Watch Dogs: Legion support cross-progression, so players won't lose their save files.

Ubisoft isn't the only developer to help. Developer Muse Games is giving Embr Steam codes to those who played its comedic co-op firefighting game on Stadia if they email the developer with screenshots of Embr in their Stadia library. Meanwhile, IO Interactive confirmed that it is "looking into ways for you to continue your Hitman experience on other platforms," as the World of Assassination trilogy was available on Google Stadia.
There's still the matter of the five Google Stadia exclusives: Gylt, Hello Engineer, Outcasters, Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle, and PixelJunk Raiders. So far, only one of those games seems like it will be saved. PixelJunk Raiders developer Q-Games said in a blog post that "we hope to find a way to continue to share the vibrant worlds of Planet Tantal in the future, and we’re open to discussing opportunities to find the right publishing partner to make it happen.. Tequila Works, tinyBuild, Splash Damage, and Bandai Namco Entertainment did not respond to requests for comment from Digital Trends.
While the shutdown of Google Stadia is disappointing for players like myself who enjoy cloud gaming, at least players will be get refunds, and in some cases get the game for a new platform.

Sony forms PlayStation Mobile Division alongside Savage Game Studios acquisition
Savage game studios splash screen.

Sony is expanding into mobile gaming by acquiring mobile developer Savage Game Studios. As part of the move, Sony announced that it has established the PlayStation Mobile Division.

Sony has been slowly dipping its toes outside its normal comfort zone of console exclusives in recent years, primarily by porting its first-party titles to PC. The success of these titles has been such that the company even acquired a dedicated PC port studio, Nixxes Software, to push this initiative. While there have been a select few Sony games on mobile, such as the oft-forgotten Uncharted: Fortune Hunter, the company has otherwise been absent on the platform.
