PlayStation’s Until Dawn remake will launch this fall for PlayStation 5 and PC. The news was revealed on today’s Sony State of Play stream, which featured a new trailer for the project that showed off its modernized visuals created in Unreal Engine 5.

Until Dawn is a PlayStation 4 horror game from developer Supermassive Games, the team behind recent titles like The Quarry. Released in 2015, it kick-started the studio’s “interactive horror” style, which puts players at the center of a playable slasher film. A remake was announced in January with a 2024 release window. Now, we roughly know when to expect it, though we don’t have an exact release date.

While January’s reveal trailer was more of a teaser, the new State of Play video properly shows the game in action. The star of the show is its Unreal Engine 5 glow-up, which gives the original game more dynamic lighting and starker contrast. PC players will likely get the most out of that when that version launches alongside the PS5 version this fall.

Otherwise, it looks like the same Until Dawn that fans loved in 2015. The trailer showcased a long reel of bloody story beats highlighting the game’s all-star cast, which features Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere, whose faces look even more detailed in the remake.

The remake isn’t the only piece of Until Dawn media coming. A film adaptation is in the works from Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg. Sony didn’t mention the film adaptation during the presentation.

Until Dawn launches this fall for PS5 and PC. You can play the original via PS Plus Extra.

How to upgrade your PS5 storage
The mainboard of the PS5.

There's nothing worse than sitting down to play one of the best PS5 games only to find out that you don't have enough storage space to download it. Even if you have the game on disc, you still need to download the game to your system's memory in order to play it, and that space can fill up fast if you're playing a massive title like the best Call of Duty games. When that happens, your options are to either delete a game you have installed to make room or expand your storage. Thankfully the latter option is easier and cheaper than ever before. If you want to make sure you have space for all the upcoming PS5 games without having to delete your current favorites, here's how to upgrade your storage.
How external storage works with PS5

Since the PS5 is backward compatible with most PS4 games, you'll likely be using your new system to catch up on some last-gen favorites. That's where an external drive comes in handy. You need to buy one that's compatible and format it to work with the PS5. Once you plug in the drive to your PS5 via a USB, head to the Settings > Storage > Extended Storage, and you'll find the option to format it as exFAT. After you do, it'll be compatible with your new system.

Don’t skip Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s great new mode during its beta
A player holds a dead player as a body shield in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

The beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 begins tomorrow, and it features eight different modes for players to check out. While I'm guessing most will want to play iconic modes like Team Deathmatch (TDM) or Domination, I recommend you give Kill Order a shot.

Kill Order is a mode new in Black Ops 6 that finds a way to twist the core TDM formula to make it less chaotic. I spoke to developers at Treyarch about its creation and learned that Kill Order works as well as it does because it was built around the aspects of Call of Duty that players like best.
A high-value mode
At its core, Kill Order is TDM with a twist. The basics will be familiar as two teams of six compete to get the most kills, earn points, and win a match. To help focus the action, one player on each team is named the "High Value Target." This "HVT," as the game and developers call it, is powered up with extra armor, directional indicators for other players on the minimap, and the ability to earn more score with each enemy kill. They're not a juggernaut or anything, but in a one-on-one between an HVT and an enemy player, the HVT is more likely to win.

Chantey is a new pirate metal rhythm game — and it’s launching on Game Boy and Chromatic
Key art for Chantey, a game for Game Boy and Chromatic.

Digital Trends can exclusively reveal that ModRetro is publishing Chantey, a pirate-themed metal rhythm game from Greek indie game studio Gortyn Code that's coming to both Game Boy and Chromatic.

The Chromatic is a new video game handheld inspired by the Game Boy. It's compatible with cartridges for original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, but ModRetro is also publishing titles on dedicated Chromatic game cartridges. Chantey will be one such game when it launches in the first quarter of 2025. Developer K.C. Apostolakis tells Digital Trends that the Chromatic is "identical to the Game Boy Color in every respect (right down to the screen resolution), but everything has been cranked up to 11 so that the Game Boy playing experience can be modernized and brought up to speed with today’s gaming standards."
