Platinum’s cult favorite action game ‘Vanquish’ is exploding onto PC in 4K

Vanquish | PC Announce Trailer ESRB
Vanquish will follow Bayonetta as the next Platinum Games action game to be ported to PC, publisher Sega announced on Wednesday. The cult favorite action game, originally released in 2010, will debut on PC exclusively on Valve’s Steam platform on May 25.

It won’t be the same game fans slid and shot through in 2010, though. Like Bayonetta before it, another cult favorite that was released on PC in April, Vanquish is receiving “Sega’s renowned best practice conversion treatment” for the platform, according to the company’s announcement. That includes improvements and PC optimizations like “an unlocked framerate, 4K resolution support, extensive graphics options, and full keyboard and mouse support.”

Vanquish was directed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, which alone could have earned it cult status. But despite a story that was not about to win any awards, Vanquish also had staying power thanks to its chaotic but smooth action gameplay. Unlike many other games released during the last console generation, Vanquish was never ported to the Xbox One or PS4, making the game’s PC release the first time it will be playable outside of its original platforms, the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Fans who pre-order Vanquish on Steam will get a special edition dubbed the Digital Deluxe Edition with some extra goodies: “A five-track soundtrack sampler, character and enemy avatars, art book, and exclusive wallpapers.” And for existing Bayonetta fans Sega has a deal: If you own the PC version of Bayonetta or buy it before May 25 you get 25  off your Vanquish pre-order.

In its announcement, Sega touted the multiple back-catalog games the company has converted for PC in addition to Vanquish and Bayonetta, including The Typing of the Dead, Valkyria Chronicles, and the Sega Mega Drive Collection. In a statement, Sega’s senior vice president of commercial publishing for Europe, John Clark, said they were pleased by the positive response to Bayonetta on PC last month and “There’s more to come from Sega in this space, so stay tuned for further announcements.”

Eve’s Glossy Spectrum 4K is the first glossy gaming monitor
Glossy vs. Matte on the Dough Spectrum one.

Why don't we have any glossy gaming monitors? It's been a question on the fingertips of countless Redditors for years, driving some to go as far as to pull the matte coating off their gaming display, ruining it forever. Now Eve, the company behind last year's wildly popular Eve Spectrum 4K, finally has a solution.

Arriving later this year, the aptly named Eve Glossy Spectrum uses a glossy coating instead of a matte one, and Eve says it's the first of its kind. It might not seem like a big deal, but Eve says the process is way more involved than changing a coating. The company had to work with LG -- which supplies panels for the Spectrum -- to fully recalibrate its automated assembly line.

Epson’s new 4K laser projector does HDR10+, 120Hz gaming
Epson Pro Cinema LS12000.

Epson has just dropped its newest flagship 4K laser projector and it boasts some impressive specs that will make it a serious contender for fans of big-screen movies and gaming alike. The Epson Pro Cinema LS12000 4K PRO-UHD Laser Projector (model V11HA47020MB) has been priced at $4,999 and can be purchased at the Epson online store and Magnolia and CEDIA dealers.

Five grand is a lot of money, but when you dig into the LS12000's capabilities, it starts to seem a lot more reasonable, especially as you compare to OLED and QLED TVs with the same features. Using a newly designed laser array light source and a three-chip LCD display engine, the LS12000 boasts 2,700 lumens of brightness and can reproduce 100% of the color in an HDR10 video signal, according to Epson. There's also compatibility with HLG and HDR10+ (though not Dolby Vision), and native support for 120Hz refresh rates, along with a claimed input lag time below 20 milliseconds, all of which will make it a very good gaming companion for both consoles and PCs.
