The Walking Dead brings new Fortnite maps, characters, and weapons

The Walking Dead Universe Lurches into UEFN and Fortnite Creative

The Walking Dead has come to Fortnite in the form of new weapons, new enemies, and new assets to build with. Creators in Fortnite can now build new islands using content from The Walking Dead in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and in Fortnite Creative. That’s not all, either; when version 34.30 rolls around on April 8, Negan will be available as an NPC, and he arrives as a playable character on April 4.

But here’s the best part: you can start building today (even though you can’t publish your islands on the Creator Portal until May 16.) If you’ve been away from Fortnite for a while, the game isn’t what it used to be. It has expanded far beyond the battle royale mode to include a slew of user-created content, game types, and more.

One of the new type of enemies is called a Walker. These are slow, shambling hordes — typically what you think of when you think zombie — and they’re easy to kill in small groups. Put a bunch of them together, though, and you have trouble. If someone is bitten, it deals damage over time. And you know what that means: once bitten, it’s just a matter of time.

The Prison Starter Island gives you a map to start from, but youc an also use the Flat Grid Template to create an island all your own. You can opt for the classic zombie-killing Shiva Shotgun, or go for Negan’s own Lucille. Nothing like clobbering a mindless ghoul with a barbwire-covered bat, right?

There are plenty of how-to guides and documentation to help you get started. The Fortnite community continues to create custom, fresh content for the game that keeps it fun long after the initial thrill of coming in first place wears off, and this collaboration is another chance to continue that trend.

Sims alternative Inzoi is off to a huge start on Steam
A city scene in Inzoi.

Inzoi, a new life simulation game from Krafton in the vein of The Sims, is off to an explosive start on Steam. Launched in Early Access as of March 28, the title quickly surged to over 87,000 concurrent players, according to SteamDB, and is currently holding steady at just over 85,000 at the time of writing.

For comparison, The Sims 4 alone peaked at just over 96,000 concurrent players nearly 3 years ago, though Steam is not the only storefront or launcher that the game can be played from. For a genre long dominated by The Sims, the numbers reflect a growing demand for new and different (or more detailed) approaches to life sim games.

Katamari Damacy Rolling Live is a delightfully weird and wacky revival
A character from Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE on Apple Arcade.

After a long drought, Katamari Damacy has finally returned to roll around planet Earth once more. On April 3, Apple Arcade subscribers will get an all-new game in Katamari Damacy Rolling Live. The iOS exclusive isn't any sort of modern reimagining of a series that ran its course; it's a very familiar sequel that picks up exactly where previous entries left off. It's a treat for long-time fans who've just been craving more levels, wacky humor, and excellent tunes. Though as much fun as I've been having with it, Rolling Live is also a good reminder of why franchises like this tend to go quiet eventually: It's easy to lose momentum when the original ideas slow down.

In Katamari Damacy Rolling Live, the King of the Cosmos decides to become a live streamer. Why? I don't know, the guy just does things like this sometimes. He tasks The Prince with once again rolling up stars for his live streams, helping him grow an audience of fans. I wouldn't blame anyone who finds the concept a little cringe-inducing (especially as the King of the Cosmos drops dated slang like "YOLO"), but it's kind of a genius premise. Katamari games are all about exponential growth. You start with a tiny ball and then make it bigger and bigger by rolling up objects. It's a perfect metaphor for content creation, a profession that's similarly about growing an exponentially larger following. Rolling Live gets the most out of its light satire by filling the right side of the screen with insatiable commenters -- not unlike 2024's The Crush House -- demanding to see bigger stars.
