AMC nabs rights to new android-based sci-fi drama ‘Humans’

AMC is nearing the conclusion of a deal that would allow it to acquire domestic rights to the upcoming sci-fi drama Humans, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The deal would see AMC take over in place of the now-shuttered Xbox Entertainment Studios for co-production of the series.

Humans, an English-language adaptation of Matador Films’ and Sveriges Television’s series Real Humans, originated in an eight-episode co-production deal with U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 back in April. The adapted series was initially set to premiere in 2015 across the Xbox platform in North America, and Channel 4 in the U.K., but AMC swooped it up two months after Microsoft’s decision to shut down its original programming studio (Microsoft has since announced that it is on the lookout for a potential buyer for Xbox Entertainment Studios).

The show is reportedly set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a “synth” – a highly developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart. The storyline centers around one suburban family who purchases a refurbished version of one of the androids, which leads to far-reaching and chilling consequences, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s coverage.

U.K. indie production company Kudos is set to produce the upcoming series, with Spooks alums Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley enlisted to write. Casting is reportedly already underway, though no official premiere date has been set.

Rotel’s new headphone DAC/amp is a sleek desktop companion
Rotel DX-3.

If you've decided to invest in an audiophile-grade set of wired headphones or IEMs, you should definitely consider acquiring a headphone amp to power them. Perhaps something like Rotel's slick new DX-3. It's the company's first headphone amp and it combines premium amplification circuitry with state-of-the-art digital-to-analog conversion. It will be available in Europe and the U.K. in March in either black or silver colors, and it's expected to arrive in the U.S. soon after, for $1,499.

Granted, that's not exactly an impulse buy for most people, but a headphone amp with the DX-3's specs will likely last for decades and can grow with you as your needs (and your system) change.

The Platin Monaco 5.1.2 wireless home theater system and the best soundbars will let you enjoy the benefits of Dolby Atmos surround sound, but the most important difference with the Platin Monaco 5.1.2 wireless home theater system is right there in it's name -- it's wireless through the use of WiSA technology. The bundle comes with four satellite speakers featuring two up-firing speakers, a center speaker, and a wireless subwoofer -- all of which you have total freedom to place anywhere in your living room as the included WiSA SoundSend module that acts as a hybrid of an A/V receiver and a wireless transmitter.
